The Off. Line - Complaints, Fixes, Questions, Draft
Mike Tice once said while coaching for the Raiders: “If you look at the offense like a fancy car, the offensive line is the engine. Even though we might have nice spinners and nice rims and tinted windows and some neat paint job, it doesn’t mean crap without the engine. If the engine’s not working, the car might look like a pretty nice car, but it’s a piece of crap.” And he was 100% right. I wish we had him back. Changes must be made on the O-line. Charles Grant is a very athletic lineman. We should give him some reps at right tackle. Bring back Powers-Johnson as the starter at center. Parham has got to go. Maybe we should consider moving Meredith back to guard. He did so well there last year.

Yea, I spoke too soon, went and looked at his contract. He could get traded but they likely cannot cut him. Even with a post June 1st designation his hit is 67M to the cap. Trading him could happen with a post June 1st designation but the team that would do so would take on a horrible contract.BotesBoats wrote: Wed Jan 14, 2026 9:16 am I don't think they can release him this year. Isn't his dead cap hit something like 100 million this year?

If you release Geno in the first few days of FA he costs $18 million. After that he gets another $8 million guaranteed. He will be released day 1 of the new league year to avoid that extra $8 million vesting. It's a sunk cost, don't make it worse.Attyla wrote: Wed Jan 14, 2026 9:08 am Teams have to know we are letting him go, but at the same time, there are a ton of teams with QB needs and the market is not going to be great and the draft will not offer any solutions either. Murray is gone in AZ and who he goes to is a mystery to me. Jones likely resigns in Indy. Tua likely traded unless they decide to keep him for the new coach. So you have AZ, Pitt, NYJ (likely taking Simpson unless Moore comes out which I doubt) LAR (if Stafford retires) Cle, Mia. All need a QB with two coming off the board for Tua and Murray. That means at least 3 teams maybe 4 who are out of luck.
Hanging onto Geno until it is open season might make sense as a trade option. I know his value is garbage but he is better than the other scrubs out there. If no one bites, you let him go before the draft and nobody gets too uptight.

Brady is Mendoza’s idle, no need for a veteran, besides we have AOCrich72 wrote: Thu Jan 15, 2026 3:55 pm So who will we bring in to be a vet presence for Mendoza? Maybe flacco?

It's weird but it's possible that AOC is a good vet presence. It doesn't seem likely but it's possible. Davis Webb was a good vet presence as an inexperienced backup QB, and none of us knew that until he started getting buzz as a HC candidate.

Athletically he’s much better built for a coaching position.chucker wrote: Thu Jan 15, 2026 7:18 pm It's weird but it's possible that AOC is a good vet presence. Is there any chance we can draft Fernando Mendoza and Peter Woods in the first round without trading Maxx Crosby?
I think that is my dream.
Please someone tell me, yes.

I might even still trade Maxx whilst he still has some 1st round multi pick value to maximise what we can do with this team

Im going oline with pick 2. We have all the weapons we need on offense to begin a very solid skill player core.
Emmanuel Pregnon LG 6'5 320
Collegiate Career:
Pregnon began his college career at Wyoming in 2020, redshirting his first two seasons before becoming a starting guard in 2022 and earning Freshman All-American honors. He transferred to USC and started 25 games at left guard during the 2023 and 2024 seasons.
Oregon Ducks: For the 2025 campaign, he transferred to Oregon and delivered a dominant final season, earning first-team All-American recognition from both the Associated Press and The Sporting News.
NFL Draft Outlook: Originally viewed as a late-round prospect, his performance at Oregon has led to consideration as a potential first-round NFL draft pick. He has accepted an invite to the Senior Bowl.
Emmanuel Pregnon has played both left guard (LG) and right guard (RG) during his collegiate career, primarily focusing on LG at his recent schools.
Wyoming: In 2022, he started at right guard.
At USC He played almost exclusively left guard in 2023 and 2024, starting all 25 games there.
At Oregon, his final season in 2025, he was the starting left guard (LG), though he had one start at right guard.
He has four years of starting experience across both positions, which is seen as a positive for his NFL draft stock due to his versatility.

EDIT PS: I'm starting to come around on the trade Maxx idea, while he has value. By the time rebuild is complete (here's hoping it WILL be completed) Maxx will be past his prime.
2nd Edit: Would LOVE either of those guys. Trenches, trenches, trenches.

I think we have to trade Max. Getting 2 FRPS, a solid vet, and cap space is to good to pass up. We are building this team from the ground up. Hopefully Mendoza is the franchise QB we dream about. Lets get as much young inexpensive talent as we possibly can. Copy (I hate to say it) the Pats. Once they realized that Maye was a franchise QB, they went all in on the FA front. Their offseason was INCREDIBLE last year.

Yes, road grading guard in the 2nd. Protect our new QB and make holes for Jeanty.KillerRaider30 wrote: Sun Jan 18, 2026 6:47 am Im going oline with pick 2. We have all the weapons we need on offense to begin a very solid skill player core.
