Some talking heads mentioned he needs to learn the behind the center stuff with handoffs and turning his back to the defense. He was mostly shotgun in Indiana. I suppose thats one of the things they will work on heavily. Plus the playbook of course.mstrbass2000 wrote: Sat Mar 28, 2026 11:39 am love it...raiders are using brian griese to teach kubiak's playbook to fernando "kids gonna hit the ground running" learning curve will be small, then its only about fernando getting used tot he speed of the game and executing the offense at a high clip
Just nice to have someone willing to go all in with his skills and intelligence.

I’d say 90% of college QB’s operate mainly out of the gun nowadays most of the time and it’s been that way for a while..not worried about that at all

If you have paid attention to Fernando at all, it is quite evident how intelligent he is and genuinely seems to love the game. I have absolutely no worries that he can rectify any deficiencies he may be perceived to have and be the QB we have wanted for a long time. He is not perfect no but no rookie really is imo. Give him time Raider Nation and I think he can be special.
Football smarts is the key to being successful in the NFL and he has that in abundance.

The Mendoza / Simpson debate is simply for me it is about whether you want 4 or 5 years of perceived stability over possible uncertainty
We as a franchise need to start taking the perceived safe options every time until we are at a point like the Rams or Eagles where you can trade for players or take red flag prospects where ever they want,
Years of bad drafting in the early rounds has killed us but over the last few years we have started to right the wrongs of past years, so let’s hope it continues under Spytek & Kubiak.

I don't think Mendoza/Simpson is a debate. I get that there are people who think Mendoza's ceiling isn't high enough. There are people who say his ceiling is Jared Goff. I don't see why the ceiling isn't Joe Burrow without the Burrow injury issues.CWood24 wrote: Sun Mar 29, 2026 2:03 am The Mendoza / Simpson debate is simply for me it is about whether you want 4 or 5 years of perceived stability over possible uncertainty

Mendoza brings so much to the table in all the areas that I want most. The biggest arm and elite running ability have never been the biggest factors for me in a QB - it's the brain that makes the difference. YMMV.

I'm starting to go through his games, he and his offense in general works fast, about quick hitters often and possibly to set up for bigger things. That's good, I don't get how OC's settled for the QB's regressing like they did after Peyton and Brady set the mark. It's about reading fast and playing fast and lots of quick hitters for lots of reason, one simply to piss off rushers. But it's amazing how teams settle for their QB's being lazy and not learn from past greatness and more of "I just do my thing". This has to be how Kubiak wants his offense to work and he's getting an ideal QB for this.
One tip on watching full games. Get an addon for your browser called Youtube Fast Forward and Rewind. Set Right arrow to forward 15 seconds and Left arrow to back 10 seconds. It helps for huddles/commercials and getting back to Mendoza on offense. This assumes you already have Ublock Origins.
