David Ojabo tore his Achilles at his pro day a few years ago. But what an edge rusher fighting for higher draft position does at his pro day is a lot different than what a QB who's going first overall does at his pro day.

agreed chucker, Ojabo was a projected 1st rounder and went in the second round to the suckass ravens 45th overall. big difference between what and edge and QB are doing on their pro day especially with Mendoza going number 1. Lets hope everything goes well on his pro day! Been waiting 22 -23 years for a competent quarterback!!

No QB I could find has ever injured himself during his pro day. Mendoza is going to be in shorts and a tee going through his paces with targets he knows without a rush and chatting up the GMs and coaches who will be there. Full display of his talents but in a controlled environment. He will come out of it unscathed and then go and get measured up for his draft suit. It is a good time to be Fernando Mendoza. And in just over 3 weeks, it will be a good time to be a Raiders fan. And wow, the influx of player fans is about to be huge.

I know in the past some people have had some superstitious reasons to not suggest such things. I don't have such beliefs or concerns, but it also doesn't seem useful or productive. I also understand it's more of a thought experiment than a prediction.

Something bad can always happen prior to anything, whether it's at a pro day, training camp, preseason, etc.

The bubblewrap has to come off at some point.

With almost any other draft pick the team would pivot and move forward with an alternative plan, but does that still happen with the #1 pick and when the team has such a great need.

chucker wrote: Sun Mar 29, 2026 7:06 am I don't think Mendoza/Simpson is a debate. I get that there are people who think Mendoza's ceiling isn't high enough. There are people who say his ceiling is Jared Goff. I don't see why the ceiling isn't Joe Burrow without the Burrow injury issues.

Mendoza brings so much to the table in all the areas that I want most. The biggest arm and elite running ability have never been the biggest factors for me in a QB - it's the brain that makes the difference. YMMV.
Must be the Cal connection? Aside from that, Goff has settled in well in Detroit. I don't see that necessarily as a detriment though I am hoping for Joe Burrow myself.

Raiders head coach Klint Kubiak said he thinks it helps a young quarterback “if they can sit behind a mature adult and watch how they run the show.”

The Raiders have been linked to Kirk Cousins as a bridge quarterback ahead of obvious No. 1 pick Fernando Mendoza for most of this offseason, and this helps explain why that is. Kubiak did say that “you might not have that veteran to show him the way.” The way the Raiders currently set up, they do not have that quarterback in the room. Mendoza will almost certainly start the majority of the season for the Raiders assuming the pick is completed, but these quotes lend some credence to the idea he could sit early on.

Based on how many people we have at the Indiana pro day it sounds like they should’ve just held it at the Raiders facility
