Yep, especially with this team. Definitely a little weird he's been nowhere to be found. Would make the Stukes pick make a hell of a lot more sense if the Raiders knew/know something about Taron. Could be a bunch of nothing but definitely worth keeping an eye on.pfish57 wrote: Sat May 09, 2026 7:37 pm If it can go south, well you know there's a high probability it will go south...just saying.

My favorite parts of the article…
Johnson hasn't posted anything himself about the Raiders on his Instagram, nor has he changed his X bio, which still says he plays for the Buffalo Bills…
To be entirely fair to Johnson, he hasn't posted on his X account since 2021, and he doesn't appear to be super active on Instagram either.
But his not being at voluntary minicamp or offseason practices is definitely interesting…

The hope is that they’ve gave Johnson a little extra time off like sometimes happens with vets
Until something comes out i guess there is nothing to worry about as i’m guessing if there was a huge issue somebody would have leaked it by now & it’s been pretty quiet on Johnson everywhere

Its just the media looking to find news even when there is none.

Gm
It may be money. He only has 1.2M gaurrenteed left on his 2y 19M contract.
Cutting him saves 7.5M this year and 10M next against the cap.
He's coming off an injury ridden 2025 so the Raiders probably want to keep him on a pitch count and work in Stukes at slot ideally.
Could have to prove his heath at camp and if Stukes is the future replacement its probably a 1y deal anyway.
The 30yo is definitely a cut candidate depending on Stukes accumulation with the system so I dont think the Raiders are in any hurry to redo his contract.
The Raiders traded a 6th for Buffalo's 7th and Taron Johnson so the loss would be minimal if cut.
Lets see what happens at mandatory minimal in June. They may be playing it safe and he only missed rookie camp so...

Idk, when it comes to this team, when there's smoke, there's usually fire. Still not getting the benefit of the doubt from me so im keeping an eye on it. Media narrative or not, its odd he's been practically invisible since we traded for him. And yes, I know its voluntary but you would think a vet on a new team would want to show up.

yip. The 30yo often injured slot corner whos replacement was drafted in the second round has the vet minimum $1.2M in dead money on his contract.BoKnows81 wrote: Sun May 10, 2026 6:25 am Idk, when it comes to this team, when there's smoke, there's usually fire. Ya think he would show because if he wants to redo his contract to a 1y $8.6M fully guaranteed contract, he needs to show-up.
Taron Johnsons career is behind him and I think he'd be lucky to get anything more than vet minimum in free agency so working out a one year is in his favor.
He gets 1.2 if hes cut.
Fa vet minimum 1.2
So anything more than 2.4 from the Raiders in a redo is bank for him.
I can see this being his last year.
Has the role of mentor to a rookie even entered his mind?
Hes not the future here or anywhere else.
He should sign any contract the Raiders offer over 2.4M guaranteed.

Ya think he would show because if he wants to redo his contract to a 1y 2.4M plus fully guaranteed contract, he needs to show-up.

Or cut him and let pick 38 Stokes step right in.
Keep him & his cap hit is 8.6M

The article was based off FAN reaction on X. And they are all solid points. Dude has been M.I.A since we traded for him. And as I always say, this team will NEVER get the benefit of the doubt from me until they show me otherwise.mstrbass2000 wrote: Sun May 10, 2026 7:25 am AGREE 100 PCT teh media hates the raiders and will go out of their way to make us look bad or stir up controversy
Not to mention, when we picked Stukes, the first thing I thought of was, wait a minute, we traded for Taron Johnson. So this has some legs whether some want to admit it or not. We shall see.

just wondering what happens if we traded him off to another team with a pick to get an upgrade at dt or oline or wr ...the raider would be off the hook completely right

It would obviously be better to see Johnson (or anyone else) attending everything. There could be a completely understandable and well-communicated reason for his absence - assuming that he's actually absent, as we don't even know that for sure. These are voluntary sessions, but they aren't really treated like voluntary sessions. It's certainly frowned upon to miss them without good reason (birth of a child for example).
I don't think the drafting of Stukes makes Johnson easily expendable this year. I think we need all the available talent on board.
