vlog, blog, podcast, social media reporting r way more influential than traditional media these days...all kinds of news have been broken by and proven true by alternative media over the lying national media complex "which basically parrots each other"

Honestly, considering previous years sideshows, tragedies, and turmoil, if this is the only concerning news this off season or regular season, I will take it as a blessing.GoodTimeCharlie wrote: Sun May 10, 2026 8:38 am Me tonight on account of this harrowing Taron Johnson news…

if its 18 million for 2 years, just make it incentive based where he can even earn more than that if he plays well enough.

So it is basically just the norm
Player gets traded, said player has no guaranteed money, he want’s some security built in & holds out of voluntary camp whilst deal gets reworked

If you've traded for a player then you're expecting him to make the roster - just guarantee a chunk of the 2026 money and leave 2027 alone. I don't love that he's not participating yet, but it's not a big deal. I guess you could also adjust the 2027 contract so that a guarantee vests after a certain date in the 2027 offseason.
I can understand a player not wanting to go through an offseason program without knowing if he'll just get cut for cap reasons before the season.

I know we'd love to have everyone but part of the reason he has not reported yet is because it's not required.chucker wrote: Sun May 17, 2026 5:52 am If you've traded for a player then you're expecting him to make the roster - just guarantee a chunk of the 2026 money and leave 2027 alone. I'd like to see his deal structured mostly based on his performance this year with hopes of motivating him to play his ass off this year. Maybe something like $3MIL guaranteed this year and if he hits his benchmarks, $5Mil+ guaranteed kicks in next year.
I don't spend much time pouring over contracts so my idea may be completely out of line.

The people that use the "its only voluntary" excuse are likely the same ones that believe in participation trophies. Taron Johnson isnt a superstar nor is he guaranteed a new deal. He should be there.

I don't think there's a need to guarantee anything in 2027 based on benchmarks. And his presence is not required, but we definitely want it when we're installing a new defense with a new DC and teammates he's unfamiliar with. The voluntary OTA's are not really "voluntary". If you want to put yourself in a position to be a starter, you should find a way to get your ass in there well before things become contractually mandatory.raidersince63 wrote: Sun May 17, 2026 6:16 am I know we'd love to have everyone but part of the reason he has not reported yet is because it's not required.

Johnson is considered a great pickup. Buffalo hated losing him, but the cap forced their hand.
I'll bet 10k Silver dollars Johnson makes the team.
I am in bills country and i've seen plenty, and was happy we got him, as I had said elsewhere here at the time. ....i'm just not worried about any reading too much into the tea leaves stuff above....

I was just going on the assumption that Johnson will likely be an instant starter...but point taken.chucker wrote: Sun May 17, 2026 7:06 am I don't think there's a need to guarantee anything in 2027 based on benchmarks. And yes, it is voluntary and it's not an excuse, it's a fact and I'm not at all concerned that he's not in camp yet. And no one said anything about trophies or being guaranteed a new contract. We are in an era when players renegotiate all the time so it's certainly not a big deal.

18 million over 2 yrs is very cheap contract, cb is a PREMIUM position and the slot position is now getting pushed higher as the league see much value in the position
the raider own his rights and can trade him off at the trade deadline if the youngsters play well and get back a good pick in return
