The Off. Line - Complaints, Fixes, Questions, Draft

Unread post by erickench »

Mike Tice once said while coaching for the Raiders: “If you look at the offense like a fancy car, the offensive line is the engine. Even though we might have nice spinners and nice rims and tinted windows and some neat paint job, it doesn’t mean crap without the engine. If the engine’s not working, the car might look like a pretty nice car, but it’s a piece of crap.” And he was 100% right. I wish we had him back. Changes must be made on the O-line. Charles Grant is a very athletic lineman. We should give him some reps at right tackle. Bring back Powers-Johnson as the starter at center. Parham has got to go. Maybe we should consider moving Meredith back to guard. He did so well there last year. :cuss:

Listening to JPJ talk about that first year under Pierce, I think it is clear he is not personally comfortable at guard. I think playing him there is a net negative, and with Linderbaum on the team we should consider that JPJ is no longer a fit for our roster.
That video confirmed my earlier suspicions that JPJ is a moody player. Some may not want to accept that, but it's not as uncommon as you might think. NFL players are human, and each individual has different motivations and mental states. We may never see the best version of what JPJ can be if he is playing (in his mind) a sub-optimal position.

Cool...how many Heisman, Doak Walker and Freddie B winners have went on to do nothing relevant in the NFL regardless of their college awards?
It says something when 3 different regimes haven't had him at center

Somebody needs to straighten that kid out, tell him to get off his pity pot and start kicking ass like a man no matter where he's playing.

Exhibit A for the Raiders— Alex Leatherwood was a unanimous first-team All-America selection and was awarded the Outland Trophy as the nation's best interior lineman.
