NFL Trade Deadline
Ok maybe this doesn’t need its own thread but the deadline is 5 weeks away. I know the next couple weeks will determine if we are buyers but let’s say we get to 5-2 do we make a move?
I really wish we still had Jakobi here but it sounds like a few guys might be available…
Brian Thomas Jr
Marvin Harrison Jr
Jerry Jeudy
Thoughts?

Hard to trade a lineman who's back is injuredNor_Cal_Raider wrote: Fri Oct 30, 2026 7:44 am Maybe Spytek can fleece a pick from a desperate team for JPJ

It's really hard to trade a guy who's injured as often as JPJ, especially when he's not exactly a beast when healthy. Sometimes a back injury is just an excuse to hold a guy out of practice while a trade gets sorted out but in this case it seems more likely that JPJ just has another genuine injury to add to his list.

I had such hope for the guy. He was a mauler in college. He just cannot stay on the field and his skills are going south. I am not sure if it is the injuries or him not being able to get into the weight room or what, but he just looks slow at the point of attack and gets manhandled way too often.chucker wrote: Fri Oct 30, 2026 8:00 am It's really hard to trade a guy who's injured as often as JPJ, especially when he's not exactly a beast when healthy. new orleans paid the price for keeping vets past there date and ver paying pieces that didn't fit and sucking on the draft...they also went thru an ownership change and some turmoil at the topWillmark wrote: Thu Oct 29, 2026 3:36 pm New Orleans the last five years suggests otherwise. They are paying the price for "just one more piece" for Brees at the end of his career.
They finally emerge from it next year but with an aging roster, bad draft picks and no depth.
most teams manage to work themselves outta messes on the cap just fine, thanks to salary cap continually rising 20 million and a few vets getting traded off for draft capital and hitting on draft picks...look at the rams,kc and others ...short on cap no problem, they still sign players and contend

As with many things when comparing, this is not apples to apples. Saints were overpaying on contracts because they had to incentivize players to either stay or come to the team. The Carr contract is a perfect example because they were desperate for a QB to take them to the playoffs. Yes, they had an aging roster but there were far deeper issues surrounding the bad team syndrome. Good teams, like the Rams and Chiefs can afford those bigger deals on some players because good players who are searching for that ring will oftentimes give either good discounts or settle for one year deals toward the end of their prime. Rams in particular are able to do that also because the players know they are also getting a great young coaching staff that they can count on. Teams like the Raiders in 2012 were not able to do things like that. And the cap problems the Saints have and will maybe get out of next season will be felt long after the finances are fixed with a roster that is just not good. Raiders were in the same boat after 2012 and other than 2016 the talent did not play up at all. We all know that the cap was fixed pretty quickly, I think it was mostly good in 2015, but then you had a combination of bad players coupled with disinterested players for those who did get paid. Cap hell is not just dollars.mstrbass2000 wrote: Fri Oct 30, 2026 9:20 am new orleans paid the price for keeping vets past there date and ver paying pieces that didn't fit and sucking on the draft...they also went thru an ownership change and some turmoil at the top

He also doesn't seem to have the mentality. Hes been obsessed with playing center instead of 100% acceptance and focus on being the best guard he can beAttyla wrote: Fri Oct 30, 2026 8:02 am I had such hope for the guy. Agreed. He never bought in to playing anything other than Center. I liked him at center, but being righteous about your position is something most coaches coach out of you in JV. A 2nd rounder on his rookie NFL deal doing it is wild. He needs to be humbled. Maybe he can clean things up for another team, but it's not gonna happen here.DanKD wrote: Fri Oct 30, 2026 9:47 am He also doesn't seem to have the mentality. Teams are becoming more open to dealing players (and contracts) when they no longer feel they can contend in the direction they're going. It's an interesting trend where the great GM's are going to be fleecing bad ones.
