Occasionally he would have to drop into coverage, but he did play linebacker in High School. Snowden would be the Sam linebacker for the time being. He has Pro experience in both linebacker and defensive end. He would be covering the tight end.
He won't have to cover as much as the Sam linebacker. He would be the Jack(rush) linebacker.raidersince63 wrote: Fri Feb 27, 2026 10:44 am .there's no way Maxx can now hang trying to cover most NFL TEs.
If you were a navy seal, you would be courtmarshallederickench wrote: Fri Feb 27, 2026 3:31 pm He won't have to cover as much as the Sam linebacker. He would be the Jack(rush) linebacker.
If he's trying to keep up with a TE, he obviously won't be harassing the QB, which is what he does best.erickench wrote: Fri Feb 27, 2026 3:31 pm He won't have to cover as much as the Sam linebacker. He would be the Jack(rush) linebacker.
Beg pardon: Martial. Court Martial.
Dropping a great passrusher into coverage occasionally can allow someone else to get to the QB - he doesn't even have to cover a lot of space, just fill a passing lane. The Giants used that with Osi Umenyora when they beat the undefeated Pats in the SB. Osi was a true passrusher, not a coverage guy, and his "coverage" completely f[raiders_icon]cked up Brady to set up an easy sack for someone else.raidersince63 wrote: Fri Feb 27, 2026 4:40 pm If he's trying to keep up with a TE, he obviously won't be harassing the QB, which is what he does best.
Exactly who would be the "someone else to be allowed to get to the QB" instead of Maxx?...why not let that other DE drop into pass coverage instead of Maxx at let him do what he does best, which is sacking the QB and tackling the RBs for a loss? Unless we somehow acquire another high caliber DE, moving Maxx anywhere other than his normal position, how does doing that make our defense any stronger?...it doesn't, IMO...it weakens it.chucker wrote: Fri Feb 27, 2026 4:54 pm Dropping a great passrusher into coverage occasionally can allow someone else to get to the QB - he doesn't even have to cover a lot of space, just fill a passing lane. Exactly. It's asinine thinking to have Maxx drop into coverage. Ever. To me, switching to a 3-4 is just a step closer to Maxx being gone. While i admittedly want to give Leonard a chance, its not like we have some decorated, creative mind calling the defense.raidersince63 wrote: Fri Feb 27, 2026 5:17 pm Exactly who would be the "someone else to be allowed to get to the QB" instead of Maxx?...why not let that other DE drop into pass coverage instead of Maxx at let him do what he does best, which is sacking the QB and tackling the RBs for a loss? And if we were to acquire another DE in Maxx's category, it would likely mean that Maxx has been traded elsewhere, which would make the point moot. Also, an outlier from one guy in one SB game many years ago is not gonna sway me.
Yip. Moving the protection to Maxx and having him drop in coverage leaves an offense vulnerable in other places 2 plays a month.chucker wrote: Fri Feb 27, 2026 4:54 pm Dropping a great passrusher into coverage occasionally can allow someone else to get to the QB - he doesn't even have to cover a lot of space, just fill a passing lane. Haha, it's not a step towards Maxx being gone. That's just what you want to happen so maybe you can speak it into existence.BoKnows81 wrote: Fri Feb 27, 2026 5:41 pm Exactly.
