I can get behind all of the picks so far. There's logic to them and as I said before, this team has so many depth and starter issues that we need players regardless of position. Some may not see the Crawford pick as an immediate need and I would tend to agree however if you look at the big picture, Koonce is still a flash in the pan for a handful of games two years ago and Snowden is probably depth at best. Who's behind them? Plus they're on one yr deals and either need replaced or re-signed next year. Looking at it that way, the Crawford pick makes alot of sense and just like linemen, you can never have enough pass rushersBoKnows81 wrote: Sat Apr 25, 2026 7:12 am Had some time to reflect on this pick and I am actually going to admit I probably overreacted just a smidge. However, when I criticized the pick, i want to be clear that I wasnt criticizing the player. He is a dawg no doubt and I did mention early on that I thought free safety was a bigger need than NT. So I cant kill it. But, in my opinion, there were other bigger impact players to surround Mendoza with on the board at the time. Thats all. I dont think I've seen one person "kill" the actual player. Yea his age is a minor concern but honestly, anything less than a deep playoff/superbowl appearance within 5 years is a disappointment anyway, at least in my opinion.
Right. I posted yesterday that we don't have to be planning on keeping EVERYONE for ten years. We'll be drafting and signing new safeties every year.Hellbound wrote: Sat Apr 25, 2026 6:51 am Right...even if he hits a wall at 30, we have 5 yrs until then to figure something out. It's not like this is going to be the only safety we draft or sign in that time span
i had stukes about early to mid 2nd rd...knew we needed help in the secondary especially at safety so i wasn't completely surprised by teh pick but wanted mcdonald or bisontisMexicanHulk wrote: Fri Apr 24, 2026 6:01 pm Love this player. I wanted McD or Miller but, Stukes was one of my favs. He will not disappoint.
i think most of us were on mcdonald and when we lost him after the trade down and swap of picks were disappointed slightly, so the overreaction to the stukes pick was not really a surprise at least to me, i had stukes as a player rated 5-8 picks later on value but safety was definitely a huge need for us...looking forward to this kid making a huge impact for usBoKnows81 wrote: Sat Apr 25, 2026 7:12 am Had some time to reflect on this pick and I am actually going to admit I probably overreacted just a smidge. For me to say it was a horrendous pick, was wrong (and probably more the tequila talking). However, when I criticized the pick, i want to be clear that I wasnt criticizing the player. Super Bowl windows dont last long anyway.
exactly my thoughts as well...crawford could be the answer for us after this yr plus the kid is talented and has a great first step and good bend with multiple move in his arsenal already...great thing is he gets to learn from max as he adds muscle and learns technicHellbound wrote: Sat Apr 25, 2026 7:20 am I can get behind all of the picks so far. yes, kid pops on tape and his speed and anticipation is outstandingislandboy wrote: Sat Apr 25, 2026 7:34 am Did not know who this kid was before Spy took him.
Some things that stand out watching a few highlights and learning about him:
-On his PD plays the QB was throwing to a wide open receiver, but Stukes with his speed and anticipation broke it up.
-Very good tackler and is a hitter.
-Good against the run and can rush the passer.
-Another capt/character player added to the Raiders.
-Walkon to Capt at UofA.
-With his coverage skills this defense will hard to be beat deep with Stukes at FS.
-4.3 covers all lot of field - great anticipation
I trust Spy and crew.
They likely had several player ranked pretty much equally and so moving down a few spots ensured they'd get one of them plus added some extra value in trade compensation. It could be that McDonald was one of those several guys. I like the trade down if that's the case - we aren't trying to fix everything in one offseason so just upgrading the team at whatever position works. 2027 is more of a year to target specific positions, assuming we develop and improve enough in 2026.RunOverByHubbard wrote: Sat Apr 25, 2026 7:46 am If they believed McDonald was a great pick and filled a need they would have taken him and not traded the pick. Many of us were kind of convinced that McDonald made sense and boom — there he was. I trust they had their reasons for passing on him. For one we do have some decent young talent at NT whereas our defensive backfield has sucked for years. Second the trade gave us a higher pick in the third round to replace one of our fourth rounders. It will be OK.
Yes it will be okay. No use in panicking before we’ve seen any of these guys take a single snap.RunOverByHubbard wrote: Sat Apr 25, 2026 7:46 am If they believed McDonald was a great pick and filled a need they would have taken him and not traded the pick. Another reason why the BPA argument always confuses me. Once you get even this deep in the draft it’s pretty hard to have a hard ranking of each guy that doesn’t allow the flexibility to be creative or to move around. The deeper you go the more flexible the rankings become I think.
....and in real life, in the NFL, how many players do we ever really envision bering on the team beyond 5 years down the road. ....I was curious, so I took a look just now, and the seemingly more applicable (to this conversation) average career length of a rookie who makes an opening day roster is 6 years, while the (presumably and hopefully )less applicable average NFL career length overall, is 3.3 years. ....so take that as you will.....Hellbound wrote: Sat Apr 25, 2026 6:51 am Right...even if he hits a wall at 30, we have 5 yrs until then to figure something out.
