This. There is no science behind why some guys translate to the pro’s and other guys don’t. All I can say is we’ve got the 1st overall pick and a QB available who by virtually all accounts: is worth the 1st overall pick.
The things we can control: coaching, protection, ground game, targets… we seem to have done a reasonably good job of putting in place. Beyond that, whether he succeeds or not I can’t hate the process. This offseason looks like a shockingly competent one.
I'm really looking forward to what this kid does with this coaching staff. We deserve good things for a change.

I assume the Jets guy has the typical scorned take: we didn't get to get him so I'll say he sucks and we wouldn't want him anyway.

Good, reasonable and sensible take. "Potential" is a useless word, either you preform or you don't. You would think that after all the QB's we've cycled through these people would adapt a "wait & see" approach

Doesn’t the draft strategy of predetermining positional picks by round lead to poor results?

this is a 50/50 question, im not saying pick predetermined, im saying have a gameplan with needs in mind, if a great player falls of course you take the value

I'm excited for Fernando to have an offense like Kubiaks. Same emphasis on ground game but more play action, more under center, more route trees to utilize. I think he's going to blossom in it
Orlovsky just keeps running out of the back of the end zone with his Mendoza/Simpson take.

I'm guessing Orlovsky thought he was better than Manning when he played.

One item of note is that Orlovsky has the same agent as Simpson, so there might be some quid pro quo. There's a lot of money for the agent if the player goes top 10.
