With literally nothing left of our defense, which was minimal to begin with, this is the first positive step in the right direction. Proven vet that can mentor young players we need badly.
Love the move, we can now focus on other positions. This was a move we needed and they so far are being smart with how they are going about business. Seems like a completely different franchise we’re cheering for now and brings much needed hope.
We are now entering a critical phase that will determine our future. I’m trying to be realistic knowing this isn’t happening overnight, just show us positive steps in the right direction.

Most importantly for me, he's not "a grabber" like most Raiders DBs, instead he's actually "a tackler".

Al Holcomb was with the Bills last year, so the Raiders have great information on Johnson. I like this deal - we needed CB help and this is a short term commitment that helps to stabilize the secondary now but won't prevent young players from getting on the field if they're ready.
....and being in bills country, and seeing almost all of their games, he never has struck me as a guy who will not help the young guys learn and get better.....

All reports are that he's a defensive leader.
Having a true slot CB also means we can use Chinn better as he won't be our slot CB anymore.

We didn't trade two picks...... we sent them a 6 and got back a 7 along with Johnson. We still have 11 draft picks.
Note that the Raiders had 2 6ths and the Bills had 2 7ths, so it's not certain yet which specific picks would get swapped.
I thought it was a pick and a swap?
I’m still good with the move.

love this pickup and all we did was swap picks 6 for a 7th, we take on his contract so minus roughly 8 million from our 120 million total

I believe Chinn to be an underrated asset for us but he is not a slot. Would love to see the kid moved around more as a chess piece as there just aren’t many that have his ability combined with speed and size. He’s an absolute beast and puts the hammer on the opponent.
I’m confident they’ll find a way to use him that brings out his best.

....Aaron Rodgers talked about Johnson during his latest appearance with McAfee, saying, “I think Buffalo did this more than anybody, playing nickel to every personnel, because Taron Johnson is one of the best players in the league. He’s one of the most underrated players in the league. He can play a box linebacker and stop the run, and he can cover guys.”
