Sadly, I believe so.
The record this year does not matter, we are not ready for prime time. I actually hope we are just bad enough that the NFL does not decide to throw us to Europe next season. We do not need that shit while developing Mendoza. USA Today is a paper of record and they are smart on a variety of levels but at the end of the day, it is merely a prediction. Who honestly gives one f[raiders_icon]ck?Viper wrote: Sat Aug 08, 2026 8:43 am We had this record last season with a less talented roster plus had the ability to add a win or two last year in a couple games as well. The new coaching staff should allow for a couple more wins by itself.
This team has the ability to make a bit of noise this season but we are still a couple years out.
5-6 wins probably but that’s not even the goal. Steady improvement and consistently competing, change in attitude and approach, better non predictable play calling with fewer sacks, qb pressure, open running lanes and limited self inflicted penalties will win more games than lose.
Unfortunately (maybe), I think this team will do just good enough to keep us somewhere in the middle of the next draft. I would like to have another draft in the top 5 or so. That means not doing so well this season but, I think they will be a much improved team over last year. They might surprise us all and pull a New England this year...Attyla wrote: Sat Aug 08, 2026 8:59 am The record this year does not matter, we are not ready for prime time. I just do not want any international games in the first year of Mendoza as the starter all season (hopefully) so he can focus on leading the team without any unneeded distractions.Dr Death wrote: Sat Aug 08, 2026 9:25 am Unfortunately (maybe), I think this team will do just good enough to keep us somewhere in the middle of the next draft. Huh. Usually we wait all the way until mid October before draft discussions begin.Dr Death wrote: Sat Aug 08, 2026 9:25 am Unfortunately (maybe), I think this team will do just good enough to keep us somewhere in the middle of the next draft. I think if you run your formula that's a wild card team.Opoponax50 wrote: Sat Aug 08, 2026 10:54 am Huh. Usually we wait all the way until mid October before draft discussions begin.
Whatever the predictions, I want us to win our games against the bad teams, split with mid, and pull an upset or two. That should get us to 7-10 or so. The would put us in the middle of the draft, but it would also mean we don't have to reach for anyone. Sometimes fewer options are better.
Middle of the 1st round is the optimal place to be if youre not drafting a qb. That's the sweet spot that maximizes surplus value of the pick.Opoponax50 wrote: Sat Aug 08, 2026 10:54 am Huh. Usually we wait all the way until mid October before draft discussions begin.

I never want a loss but, I do want to take advantage of another top 5 draft. It probably won't happen because I really think this team is going to be a lot better this year. I think possibly 7-8 wins.Opoponax50 wrote: Sat Aug 08, 2026 10:54 am Huh. Usually we wait all the way until mid October before draft discussions begin.

We dont need a top 5 draft. Its gonna be a QB heavy draft. A good player will fall to us even mid round.Dr Death wrote: Sat Aug 08, 2026 12:47 pm I never want a loss but, I do want to take advantage of another top 5 draft. 7-8 wins sounds about right. Should win 5 of 6 from Ten, Cle, NYJ, Mia, NO and Ari. Not at all impressed by Den, and KC is vulnerable, especially in week 4. Two division wins gets you to 7. One upset of NE, Buf, SF, LAR or Sea or a 3rd division win makes eight. Not gonna happen, but a top 5 pick would be sweet for an on the clock tradedown if there is a qb available at that point.Dr Death wrote: Sat Aug 08, 2026 12:47 pm I never want a loss but, I do want to take advantage of another top 5 draft. ...it is either that here, or we can always go back and do it again during a traffic stop discussion....
Sure but man… tell me Jeanty, bowers and Jeremiah smith around Mendoza wouldn’t be maybe the best triplets in the league.BoKnows81 wrote: Sat Aug 08, 2026 12:49 pm We dont need a top 5 draft. Its gonna be a QB heavy draft. A good player will fall to us even mid round.
My ideal situation is Mendoza starts the majority of games and we end up with an 8-9 or 9-8 record. Let Doza, Brock and Jeanty cook. I do not want a top 5 pick and have to question if Mendoza is the guy (even though thats unlikely).
There is no chance but, landing Smith would be the cat's ass. Being a Buckeyes fan, I can tell you he's the best WR coming out of college in a long time.raiders93 wrote: Sat Aug 08, 2026 5:54 pm Sure but man… tell me Jeanty, bowers and Jeremiah smith around Mendoza wouldn’t be maybe the best triplets in the league.
