Because it’s post-draft. Not sure if he’s worth a 5th, but it wouldn’t shock meBoKnows81 wrote: Wed May 20, 2026 10:46 am So we traded a 6th for Taron and a 7th and all of a sudden we can trade him for a 5th? Wtf u smokin?

When we traded for him there was a fat hole at slot corner but the board fell in a way that Stukes was available.
Stukes and Chinn were taking reps between the slot and deep saftey albeit day 1 of OTAs.
Tarons last surgery was about 1 year and 3 months ago so I dont think his absence is injury related.
Add he's played 14 games since that surgery so it appears hes healthy.
All in all he was traded from a playoff team to a rebuilding team who just drafted a 24yo and he's 30.
"If" he makes the team come September he'll earn 8.7M.
If not hes out the door with 1.2M and he can catch in with a team late in preseason which is not ideal for him.
This is all about money imo and he's not going to complete the 2 years left on his deal with the Raiders all things considered imo.
Lastly I dont see the Raiders redoing his deal if hes not in the building if at all since my guess he was insurance against the draft.
A Buffalo player entering a fresh restart by the Raiders with a contract dispute is not a look the Raiders may want to deal with.
Lets see come mandatory mini camp.

Not concerned at all about him missing optional camps, and yeah, it would be nice if he was already here but again, I don't think it's a big deal. I can understand what he's trying to do concerning his contract but like I said before, he and his agent need to be very careful about their "demands" from the Raiders.
Needless to say, I'd prefer him in Silver and Black, but if he's still a no-show at the first mandatory camp, I'd have to think that the Raiders may very well cut him loose. And I would not be surprised if the Raiders' brass has already had conversations about the situation.

No reason to cut him loose. We hold his rights. If he doesn't show he's not getting paid.raidersince63 wrote: Thu May 21, 2026 11:57 am Not concerned at all about him missing optional camps, and yeah, it would be nice if he was already here but again, I don't think it's a big deal. Understood, but as I've been harping for a while now, the Raiders don't need to players that are more focussed on money than anything else. And not showing up for required activities, would not bode well for him. If that happens the Raider can cut him, he can go play elsewhere and we recoup some cap money.NoThanksSir wrote: Thu May 21, 2026 12:53 pm No reason to cut him loose. We hold his rights. Considering we traded a pick for him, the only reason you would do something like that is if you're $8 million short for another player. Very unlikely. Cutting him loose is probably the least likely thing to happen.raidersince63 wrote: Thu May 21, 2026 1:04 pm Understood, but as I've been harping for a while now, the Raiders don't need to players that are more focussed on money than anything else. Every player in the NFL is focused on money over anything else. Quit living in la la land.

I avoided betting on things I cannot control but if I had to bet, I believe this will be resolved soon.NoThanksSir wrote: Thu May 21, 2026 1:11 pm Considering we traded a pick for him, the only reason you would do something like that is if you're $8 million short for another player. Taron Johnson signed a three-year, $30.75 million contract extension (2024–2026, plus a 2027 dummy year used to spread out signing bonus cap hits) with Buffalo, earning $19.48 million in cash from the Bills before being traded to the Las Vegas Raiders in March 2026.
The Raiders inherited the remaining two years of his contract rate, but because the final year carries no financial penalties, it is functionally inherited as a one-year contract that breaks down exactly by base salary, workout bonuses, and specific injury protections as follows:
2026: He is scheduled to earn a $8,100,000 base salary and a $150,000 workout bonus ($8.76 million total cash).
Because only $1.175 million carries injury protection—meaning the team only owes him that small sum if he suffers a season-ending injury—he is holding out from Raiders workouts to demand better financial safety.
2027: He is scheduled to earn a $9,000,000 base salary and a $500,000 workout bonus ($10.04 million total cash). This "plus" year features zero injury protection or skill guarantees, giving the Raiders complete flexibility to release him after 2026 with no financial penalty if his performance drops or he gets hurt.
