So.....no, nobody is giving us more than what we paid for him 7 months later.
Never do a first cousin. You get birth defects
Desperate teams pay up for GOOD players.
OK, I gotta admit, that was pretty damn good...Kudos.
If Johnson suffers a season ending injury in camp or OTA's or in the season, he will get all of his 2026 compensation. If he's looking for guarantees then it's likely to ensure that he doesn't just get cut prior to the season if Stukes takes ahold of the position and they decide to cut him to save about $7.5 million instead of keeping him as a backup. The $1.175 million is fully guaranteed, not just injury guaranteed.KillerRaider30 wrote: Thu May 21, 2026 1:18 pm Taron Johnson signed a three-year, $30.75 million contract extension (2024–2026, plus a 2027 dummy year used to spread out signing bonus cap hits) with Buffalo, earning $19.48 million in cash from the Bills before being traded to the Las Vegas Raiders in March 2026.
The Raiders inherited the remaining two years of his contract rate, but because the final year carries no financial penalties, it is functionally inherited as a one-year contract that breaks down exactly by base salary, workout bonuses, and specific injury protections as follows:
2026: He is scheduled to earn a $8,100,000 base salary and a $150,000 workout bonus ($8.76 million total cash).
Because only $1.175 million carries injury protection—meaning the team only owes him that small sum if he suffers a season-ending injury—he is holding out from Raiders workouts to demand better financial safety.
2027: He is scheduled to earn a $9,000,000 base salary and a $500,000 workout bonus ($10.04 million total cash). This "plus" year features zero injury protection or skill guarantees, giving the Raiders complete flexibility to release him after 2026 with no financial penalty if his performance drops or he gets hurt.

if teh raiders trade him,the new team inherits the contract minus the time he was with the raiders and it free us cap money this yr ???chucker wrote: Fri May 22, 2026 5:50 am If Johnson suffers a season ending injury in camp or OTA's or in the season, he will get all of his 2026 compensation. Do you envision him starting and then getting traded? If he's playing well enough that he's a starter then we likely won't want to trade him. If he's not playing well enough to start then nobody will want to trade for him. I don't envision us having enough quality DBs to want to get rid of one who's playing well enough to have trade value. I don't expect us to be in purge mode mid-season.mstrbass2000 wrote: Fri May 22, 2026 7:18 am if teh raiders trade him,the new team inherits the contract minus the time he was with the raiders and it free us cap money this yr ???
im looking at it from the perspective of him continuing to hold out and turning into a distraction for this young team, we didn't give up much for him and revamped the entire backfieldchucker wrote: Fri May 22, 2026 7:34 am Do you envision him starting and then getting traded? I appreciate your forward-thinking ideas of a trade but I think it's misplaced with respect to Johnson. YMMV.
