The Off. Line - Complaints, Fixes, Questions, Draft

Mike Tice once said while coaching for the Raiders: “If you look at the offense like a fancy car, the offensive line is the engine. Even though we might have nice spinners and nice rims and tinted windows and some neat paint job, it doesn’t mean crap without the engine. If the engine’s not working, the car might look like a pretty nice car, but it’s a piece of crap.” And he was 100% right. I wish we had him back. Changes must be made on the O-line. Charles Grant is a very athletic lineman. We should give him some reps at right tackle. Bring back Powers-Johnson as the starter at center. Parham has got to go. Maybe we should consider moving Meredith back to guard. He did so well there last year. :cuss:

Yet, from another thread the head coach has stated that he’s playing and his ankle designation appears to be gone now.

He was listed today the 14th as a full participant on the injury report.

Raiders got curbstomped last Sunday on both sides of the trenches
Good post. I will add that our OL has allowed the 2nd most QB hits in the league. Sure Cousins has zero escapability and does scan the field. That being said, he has gotten his ass kicked and will never last the season. Lets not forget that we do not call any deep routes (partly because our lack of WR's, poor OL play, and Cousins arm strength). These warts demonstrate the greatness of BB despite not having anyone (in terms of WR's taking some heat off of him) and the entire stadium knowing that he is getting the ball. We are one WR and 1-2 players on the OL from being an incredible offense.

Bad decision
I'm going to quietly slide this decision to keep playing him into a back file folder and bring it back out at some future date if necessary.

It's not just us who can see the kid needs to heal. Announcers see it, and fans from other teams see it too.

So why doesn't Kubiak see it?

And now he's got a foot injury.

I said it earlier in one of these threads but Jeanty looked hurt in the couple of games before last Sunday but to me, he looked healthier last sunday. I never saw him get up off the ground and hobble back to the huddle. The blocking was atrocious but that hasnt been a surprise.

But again, I`m not at the facility so who knows? When our Oline gets zero push its difficult to judge.

ETA: I was one of the ones 2-3 weeks ago asking why he wasnt sitting and recovering

Kubiak lies through his teeth, and I love it. Jeanty was actively grimacing last week, he's not healthy lol If he was Laube would not have seen the field.

Yep, he seems to have taken a page from Bellichek and how he used to deal with the media, without the snark. Maybe Kubiak has to have a pc but he doesn’t have to say anything useful, or even truthful.

Controversial take: Our running game was at its best when JPJ was at center.

I don't think this is that big of a stretch. Listening to JPJ talk about that first year under Pierce, I think it is clear he is not personally comfortable at guard. I think playing him there is a net negative, and with Linderbaum on the team we should consider that JPJ is no longer a fit for our roster.

I also think he likely can't handle the technical leadership aspects of the position in the NFL. In college you win the Rimington trophy for blocking the guy in front of you. In the NFL there is much more to the position.
