The Off. Line - Complaints, Fixes, Questions, Draft
Mike Tice once said while coaching for the Raiders: “If you look at the offense like a fancy car, the offensive line is the engine. Even though we might have nice spinners and nice rims and tinted windows and some neat paint job, it doesn’t mean crap without the engine. If the engine’s not working, the car might look like a pretty nice car, but it’s a piece of crap.” And he was 100% right. I wish we had him back. Changes must be made on the O-line. Charles Grant is a very athletic lineman. We should give him some reps at right tackle. Bring back Powers-Johnson as the starter at center. Parham has got to go. Maybe we should consider moving Meredith back to guard. He did so well there last year.

...I don't completely disregard the pff grades, but my eyes have told me an entirely different story when I've been able to see him at center.erickench wrote: Wed Sep 24, 2025 10:04 am Meredith was one of the best guards in 2024. Moving him to center may have been a mistake but according to his PFF grades he isn't doing too bad.![]()

It's the two douchebags lining up beside him who are f[raiders_icon]cking up. They could still put JPJ back at center and Meredith back at guard. But who would the other guard be?WNYRAIDER wrote: Wed Sep 24, 2025 11:14 am ...I don't completely disregard the pff grades, but my eyes have told me an entirely different story when I've been able to see him at center.

I find it very difficult to believe that Caleb Rogers would be worse than either Cappa or Parham. Maybe not any better, but definitely not worse.erickench wrote: Wed Sep 24, 2025 12:08 pm It's the two douchebags lining up beside him who are fcking up. Rogers was a bit of a reach when they drafted him. Grant has a future as a starter. He's athletically elite, but just a bit undersized.Sir Raider Duck, OMS wrote: Wed Sep 24, 2025 12:12 pm I find it very difficult to believe that Caleb Rogers would be worse than either Cappa or Parham. Begging you guys to stop paying attention to PFF. It doesn't help any point you're trying to make.

Kenyon Green has got to be better than Parham.
You dont want to change four guys but get Cappa and Parham off the field at least.

it is a tool, and like any tool, you have to use it properly. PFF grades are flawed for the very reason any grading system is flawed, simply put, you are using a numbering system to reflect observations which are tainted by opinion. There can never be a consensus of a player ranking simply because there are so many subjective factors and subjective factors require opinions to creep in.NoThanksSir wrote: Wed Sep 24, 2025 1:01 pm

That said, if you use a tool like PFF be prepared to justify the conclusions you pull from that tool, both positive and negative. It is like QBR, ESPN went out of its way to create a tool they thought better represented a grading of QB play over the tried and true QB Rating scale. They kind of did it but they kind of did not. And to this day, on their box score they include both. Why include both if yours is superior? Again, simply put, because it was still very flawed.
But then again, so are your opinions (not the quoted poster but all of us) and yet you would get carried out on a shield defending your opinions as the gospel according to the ultimate Raiders fan.

Instant replay gets way more calls right than the days of living with the officials call on the field but there’s still the human element of the official interpreting the replay so it’s still not perfect. Advanced stats give us a better understanding of how a player or team performed but as with instant reply it’s still not infallible because humans are gathering the data based on interpretation of video.

JPJ obviously did something we don’t know about. Why is he the only one in competition for a starting spot when the other 3 interior guys are ass?

PFF sux ballz. Some guy in bangladesh evaluating players of a sport he's never seen.Sloth_Fratelli wrote: Tue Sep 23, 2025 12:32 pm Meredith isn’t moving people. If we go by PFF, JPJ had a higher grade at center once he was moved there.

I disagree that it's a tool. It's certainly marketed as one. But it's no different than posting someone else's opinion and saying "See I told you guys this player is good/sucks"Attyla wrote: Wed Sep 24, 2025 1:35 pm it is a tool, and like any tool, you have to use it properly.
I followed and subscribed PFF for quite some time because I'm a stat junkie. Then they put the stats behind a massive paywall and introduced this "rating" which combines stats with subjective analysis. You're simply parroting someone else's opinion as fact with PFF ratings. They do not reflect the reality on the field whatsoever. And honestly just reading the box score is a better use of one's time.

If Pete is holding some kind of grudge and doesn't care that it hurts the team then screw him. To not even entertain the thought of placing him back at his primary position makes no sense to me. Did he forget how to play Center? I don't think so. If he was incapable of Center responsibilities it would have been exposed his rookie year. Meredith was good at Guard last year. JPJ was at least average at Center in 24 and one would assumed he'd get better with more experience. They made the change and now we are worse and that's the way it's gonna be? I don't get it at all.LayneStaley wrote: Wed Sep 24, 2025 1:51 pm JPJ obviously did something we don’t know about.
