The Off. Line - Complaints, Fixes, Questions, Draft
Mike Tice once said while coaching for the Raiders: “If you look at the offense like a fancy car, the offensive line is the engine. Even though we might have nice spinners and nice rims and tinted windows and some neat paint job, it doesn’t mean crap without the engine. If the engine’s not working, the car might look like a pretty nice car, but it’s a piece of crap.” And he was 100% right. I wish we had him back. Changes must be made on the O-line. Charles Grant is a very athletic lineman. We should give him some reps at right tackle. Bring back Powers-Johnson as the starter at center. Parham has got to go. Maybe we should consider moving Meredith back to guard. He did so well there last year.

it is still a tool whether you agree or not.NoThanksSir wrote: Wed Sep 24, 2025 3:07 pm I disagree that it's a tool. It's certainly marketed as one. But it's no different than posting someone else's opinion and saying "See I told you guys this player is good/sucks"
I followed and subscribed PFF for quite some time because I'm a stat junkie. Then they put the stats behind a massive paywall and introduced this "rating" which combines stats with subjective analysis. You're simply parroting someone else's opinion as fact with PFF ratings. They do not reflect the reality on the field whatsoever. And honestly just reading the box score is a better use of one's time.

How come nobody's mentioned that maybe the center could be screwing up the blocking assignments? Couldn't that put interior lineman in bad positions?
Yes Parham sucks but is some of it just following orders?
(Just some musings)

This ^ kinda pisses me off, what happened? If we roll out the same line as last week someone has some explaining to do.

I know everyone wants some conspiracy but could it just be that they don't think JPJ can stay healthy and want the consistency at center?

That’s definitely possible but last week when our line was getting destroyed with JPJ on the bench the excuse was he was coming off a short week of practice even though he was cleared. If you want to win games and the line is getting destroyed I don’t think a short week of practice stops you from making a switch.DanKD wrote: Wed Sep 24, 2025 5:27 pm I know everyone wants some conspiracy but could it just be that they don't think JPJ can stay healthy and want the consistency at center?
And I’m referring to putting him in for Cappa last week at guard.

Off topic but your avatar cracks me up.powski wrote: Wed Sep 24, 2025 3:29 pm If Pete is holding some kind of grudge and doesn't care that it hurts the team then screw him. To not even entertain the thought of placing him back at his primary position makes no sense to me. Did he forget how to play Center? I don't think so. If he was incapable of Center responsibilities it would have been exposed his rookie year. Meredith was good at Guard last year. JPJ was at least average at Center in 24 and one would assumed he'd get better with more experience. They made the change and now we are worse and that's the way it's gonna be? I don't get it at all.

It's a a front cover of a great hidden gem book. A Portuguese poet kept writing this novel that he never finished, or never was meant to be finished, it didn't really matter. He wrote during the 30s and the manuscript was found in his old suitcase in the 1980s.
"The Book of Disquiet" by Fernando Pessoa. Not for everyone and meant to be read about 2 pages at a time. Not like anything else. During his time he was considered 6 of the 10 best Portugese poets alive. He wrote completely different styles under different names, he called heteronyms, personalities he'd fully developed. I don't really read poetry, but this is a prose "novel".

Not sure if mentioned already but can JPJ's concussions be the reason he's not starting at center or even playing at guard?
Maybe the concussions are making him struggle with calling plays because of head trauma and that's why they don't want him starting at center.
Something doesn't feel right about the situation but maybe Carroll doesn't want to discuss his medical problems if that's the case.

Pete is a for lifer. Hes not going to draw attention to head trauma but this absolutely could be an issue.Raider727 wrote: Wed Sep 24, 2025 7:41 pm Not sure if mentioned already but can JPJ's concussions be the reason he's not starting at center or even playing at guard?

If that’s the case and they had injury concerns about JPJ in camp or preseason and still only signed Cappa with a bunch of cap space remaining then they are extremely stupid.

This. Also, playing Parham (who has the luxury of playing next to our best OL) is also moronic. They should have already known he sucked balls.

Rogers wasn’t considered a reach he was considered an early 4th round guy we took him with the second to last pick of the 3rd with Grant being the same as the last pick of the 3rd rounderickench wrote: Wed Sep 24, 2025 12:43 pm Rogers was a bit of a reach when they drafted him. Grant has a future as a starter. He's athletically elite, but just a bit undersized.
As for undersized again he wasn't ever considered that the kid is 6’4 & 312 that's not undersized, his arm were considered not long enough to play on the outside which is why he was projected as a IOL
We’ve drafted 4 Day 2 OL over the last 2 drafts so it is not like we’re not drafting guys but i do feel like we’re not throwing them in there to get experience
I feel like if your gonna be bad then just put the young guys in to learn on the job at least then you’ll see what you have & if you can develop them further if not move on quickly
