On to the Chargers.
After a successful week one win, the Raiders are going to their second home at the Chargers this week.

One thing I'd expect is for Herbert to run more than normal. He's a good runner, but they prefer to keep him in the pocket to protect him from injury. I think we'll see some designed runs and more scrambling to pick up yards instead of just throwing the ball away.Hawkeyes wrote: Wed Sep 16, 2026 5:39 pm What does this mean exactly? What stops will they be pulling they normally wouldn’t?
Harbaugh is a great motivator, who uses motivational tricks. Those tricks don't work if you keep using them though. I'd expect him to use whatever he's got this week to avoid 0-2. Vs a weaker team like the Raiders, you might normally see him just let it ride and let the talent win out.
And then there are special plays that teams want to save for key games - ones that only work so often. For the Chargers, this has gone from a meh contest to a key game.
All that doesn't mean that the Chargers crush the Raiders. At this point the Chargers have some work to do to prove that they aren't the shitty team that played last Sunday. Without Ladd McConkey, they might just be that same shitty team. They weren't even good in that game before McConkey went down.

I like Nakoby Dean as a QB spy. His close to the ball is excellent. When he gets there he's a fuckin hammer too! Mark my words, he's gonna be clutch to have against Mahomes and Nix especially

McConkey playing is iffy. Messed up ribs is a pain tolerance thing. If it were more serious he would already be out me thinks. The Raiders need to hit him hard if he plays, every time he touches the ball. Receivers need to jam him hard at the line. Just be rough in every regard

Messed up ribs are mostly about pain tolerance from a performance standpoint, but there's also a risk of bigger issues if there's a fracture and it gets hit in the same weakened spot. So it's about more than pain tolerance when you're an NFL player going over the middle of the field and catching a ball with defenders closing in.Goodtimes333 wrote: Thu Sep 17, 2026 6:54 am McConkey playing is iffy. Nobody will be listed as "out" until Friday, because teams will never reveal more info than they need to and league rules don't compel more information than practice participation until Friday.

Mendoza doesn't need to gain an excessive amount of weight. For every 1 pound of weight gained, 4 pounds of stress is added to the back and joints, and that stress can even be doubled when running.
If the OL continues to improve he won't be harassed or sacked very often and too much weight added can result some adverse effects, such as slowing him down when he does decide to run, not to mention the added stress on his hips, knees, ankles and feet.

I agree. 6'5 230 is a great spot. That's assuming he lost a bit from the combine. Josh Allen is 6'5 236 and he plays like a fullbackraidersince63 wrote: Thu Sep 17, 2026 7:46 am Mendoza doesn't need to gain an excessive amount of weight. For me this is barometer game.
It will tell us a lot regarding the changes made so far.
I don't expect a win, but I want to see the team be extremely competitive and in the game to the end.

I found that fascinating, but what doesn't kill me makes me stronger? Doesn't building muscle change this equation some?raidersince63 wrote: Thu Sep 17, 2026 7:46 am Mendoza doesn't need to gain an excessive amount of weight. Just a lot of ways to go with that stat. There must be positives to, like if I'm too small I can't play pro football.

THE CHARGERS LETTING KEENAN ALLEN WALK WAS STUPID, how in the hell do you count on dainty little lass as the focal point of an offense ??? and now they are without a center and weak guard play which kills the run game ...i see continued struggles for this offense as herbert will be running for his life from pressure up the gut

qb putting on less fat but more muscle is a positive, they can better take hits and also break tackles and buy time to throw down the field or run for yardsSkullCrusher wrote: Thu Sep 17, 2026 9:51 am I found that fascinating, but what doesn't kill me makes me stronger? That's an old adage by Nietzsche in the late 1800's that doesn't hold up for this topic because it is about emotional grit, not physical calamities. Besides, I doubt that Nietzsche was a football fan.SkullCrusher wrote: Thu Sep 17, 2026 9:51 am I found that fascinating, but what doesn't kill me makes me stronger? Today's athletes are much bigger today which puts more stress on the back, hips, knees, ankles, feet, etc...and joints/ligaments are not as vascularized as muscle tissue.
And while a severe injury to FM may not kill him but could certainly curb his career...I want Mendoza for 10-12 years, not 3 or 4.

During the Dolphins game I became a fan of the Dean signing. We have lacked impact LBs forever. I know LBs are a bit less valued these days (and safeties raised I’m esteemed value) but I look at Warner and Greenlaw and am envious.Goodtimes333 wrote: Thu Sep 17, 2026 6:52 am I like Nakoby Dean as a QB spy. That's why I very rarely watch sportscasts of any kind. They don't and can't know the team like the fans do.HesterLayes wrote: Wed Sep 16, 2026 10:48 am I was listening to JT and he said Kirk has plenty of arm to make any throw…this is just not true
