Coming soon: Silver shop

Unread post by Corleone »

For those who aren’t interested, feel free to skip this thread, ,this one isn't for you. But for those looking for a way to spend your Silver Dollars, we’ve got something coming very soon.

You’ll soon be able to use your RaiderStation money to buy badges that display right under your username. To keep things clean, we’ll set a limit on how many show at once, but you’ll be able to pick your favorites (and maybe we'll include a 'see all' pop-up for the collectors).

We’re starting with Legacy Badges to honor Raider legends, like a flame for Al Davis or a snake for Ken Stabler. These will be rarer and cost more points. For the current roster, badges will be much more affordable so everyone can rep a Bowers or Mendoza badge without breaking the bank.

Thanks to your donations, I’ve been able to hire a developer to build this out. It’s a lot of work, but it’s coming together great and we’re in the final tweaking stage.

If you have ideas for badge designs or how they should display, post them here. Otherwise, keep an eye out, the shop will be open for business soon.

One thing I never understand is why Plunkett doesn't get more respect for being the Raiders quarterback who got us 2 Super Bowl wins. As much as we all love Snake, Kenny only got us one. Ken gave us some of the greatest moments in Raiders history YES. But only 1 super bowl. Maybe if he would have taken every game and the full 60 minutes with the same intensity and drive as he did in the last moments of those legendary games who knows how many Super Bowls Raiders would have.

I mean, one of the biggest things that dogged me about Stabler was when the Raiders finally won a SB and Ken told Al, "well we finally did it" and Al asked Snake, "can you do it again" and Kenny's response was "come on Al"
That always pissed me off as that is not the drive you want in your QB, team leader. His response should have been "Hell ya we can win some more" But Kenny was always too laid back and chill.....studying the playbook by the light of the jukebox, instead of putting everything into preparing for every minute of every game like Montana and Brady did.

Love Snake and all the great Raider moments he was a part of, but he only got us 1 SB. Plunk got us 2 SB's.

That said how about a Rushmore of great Raider Quarterbacks?

Snake Plunk Lamonica & Gannon with Hoss a honorable mention

(I too really like Hoss and wish he hadn't got hurt, he would have done more good things for us.)

If Kenny said that right after the Superbowl, maybe he just wanted to enjoy the moment before thinking about the future. It took years of banging on the wall to finally win the Big One. If the refs didn't f[raiders_icon]ck up the Lytle fumble the Raiders would of gone to another Superbowl right after the 76 season.

Tom Flores used to talk about Stabler once in a while having an off practice. Snake would get a "leave me the f[raiders_icon]ck alone" look in his eye and fight through it. Teammates and coaches knew to just give him some space and let him work out the yips.

By the end of practice Stabler would still be glaring, sweating profusely with snot all over his beard but back to throwing dimes. The cool cat from Alabama was one of the fiercest competitors that Flores had ever been around. He was very much against the trade that sent Stabler to Houston for Pastorini and this is when Plunkett had been on the team for two seasons.

Al Davis was a bit different in the 1970's than he was in the late 1980's through the end of his life. He was a little closer to the players during that era.

The NFL used to fine the Raiders every week because Fred Biletnikoff's game day uniform always looked like shit. Fred used to cut up the sleeves around the shoulders because he felt it restricted his arms and made him uncomfortable. Al used to flip him shit about butchering up his jersey and costing him money to which Biletnikoff would tell him to f[raiders_icon]ck off and hire a tailer to fix his saggy ass pants. Al would just grin and pay the fines. I think Stabler's comments were more in that context.

As much as I liked Jimmy Plunkett, he was never consistent enough to be the starting QB. He would have an off week or two, Marc Wilson would come in play well, get hurt start playing like shit and then Plunkett would come in off the bench and string together some great games. He had some phenomenal stretches but he was never in the conversation of being the best amongst his peers like Stabler was.

But, Plunkett was a pressure passer not a percentage passer. Al didn't give a shit about a 40% completion percentage if Jim hit Cliff Branch or Malcom Barnwell deep a couple of times.

Kenny might of won another Superbowl or two if he wasn't such a party animal. But then again he wouldn't be Kenny if he wasn't such a party animal. Kenny was my favorite player, past, present, or future.

Plunkett does deserve tremendous props. He got us two Superbowl. I just think he wasn't home grown and didn't go through those tough years, so it takes some shine away. But have to love the guy.

agree 100 pct...players and coaches of the past can never be compared to current players and coaches ...just so much difference in everyday (attitude)
the raider of old and football players of the past would drink and smoke the night before games and still kick ass, they sacrificed too playing injured...now a days break a finger nail and your off for the week

lets not forget the games we got robbed ...kenny is a legend cause he did it his way, plunkett was a cast off that landed on a team full of talent, we only needed avg play at the position to win

i will always love plunkett for the 2 rings and his work behind the cameras but he will always be below kenny "the snake" stabler in my eyes

Ken 1 SB, 5 straight AFC Champ appearances, 1 league MVP.
For that time frame when getting consecutive quality years out of a QB was tough.
Terry, Fran and Rodger had issues staying healthy like the rest and oddly they were all benched from time to time.
QB'ing then was brutal.
It could have been more SB's, but there's a lot of reasons not Stabler as to why.

Poster said it right about Plunkett, in and out but that uncanny knack to get it done and completely done twice.

Yeah put me down for Marcus over Woodson.
Marcus was completely the man/engine until Davis got jelly again like he did with Stabler.
Al didn't like someone rising above the team stardom wise, but that happens with the greats.
Mark did right here getting Marcus back home.

Plunk's journey was extremely marred. After coming over from the 9ers he was still very much broken. Teammates on the bench were whispering things like he doesn't know football or he'll never come back from it.
AL told him to just sit and basically get his shit back together.
It worked.

Al could be a pissy little bitch, be honest.

Al could have won 2 or 3 more SB's if he just could have checked his ego.

Which is funny because he wanted only to win SB's, but he was his own worst enemy in that regard.

Stabler said it best in his book. While he believed that he would have continued to win as the Raiders starting QB he also made the point to not overlook the fact that Jim Plunkett proved that he was a winner. A classy nod from one QB to another that shared a mutual respect for one another.
