Thanks for reposting. This will be an interesting measuring stick for Koonce who we're still holding out hope for, but ultimately is an unknown coming off injury. It's been interesting that we haven't talked much about him this offseason. He doesn't scream Pete Carroll DE, and we just heard Butler is getting early down reps at DE. Raider Nation should be monitoring Koonce's snaps/performance closely...Sold My Soul wrote: Sat Aug 02, 2025 9:53 pm I have been following closely the Raiders week 1 opponent and have been reading the same week after week...the O-Line is a problem that the Raiders can capitalize on....
Troubling report surfaces on Patriots' first-round rookie
By Jordan Sigler | Last updated Aug 2, 2025 9:01 AM ET
New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye might not feel comfortable with his blindside protection early in the upcoming season.
Following troubles at left tackle in 2024, the Patriots invested in the position by drafting LSU standout Will Campbell with the No. 4 pick in April's draft.
Per Chad Graff of The Athletic, Campbell has been trending down at training camp this summer.
"All eyes are on him every practice, which is a tough spot for a rookie," Graff wrote of Campbell. "So far, he’s been about what you’d expect from a rookie. He has some strong moments, particularly in the running game. But there have been struggles in the passing game. He’s been beaten for a sack in just about every practice, which isn’t great considering he’s usually on the field each practice for only 15 or so passing plays in full-team drills.
"He tends to get beaten to the inside after oversetting, and it probably doesn’t help that the Pats don’t yet know who their left guard is next to him. Still, extrapolate those numbers, and that’s allowing two sacks each NFL game if you throw the ball 30 times. Not great."
Well there will absolutely be injury because it's football, after all. But I get what you're saying. We can afford injuries to a few of these guys where the position group is competitive. I'm walking back my drunk 10 win position to 8 wins. The depth is a big problem. And would argue there are only a few guys going down that would change our win total: Geno, Maxx, Kolton, Bowers, and Carlson...because kickers are an afterthought until they get injured. If any of those guys get hurt, the cascading effect can surely result in a 5 win season. If they all remain healthy I think by season's end Carroll can coach the defense up to the point of us being a 500 club.Attyla wrote: Sun Aug 17, 2025 4:25 am Barring injury this team is a 7 win team, based on what I saw yesterday.

Despite the organization making its plans clear, Gary Davenport of Bleacher Report believes the Raiders would be better off rebuilding.
"At the risk of angering Raider Nation, this is a team that is still a year away—especially in an AFC West that put three teams in the playoffs last season. To be clear, the Raiders aren’t as far out as some of the teams in this column—there are some foundational pieces on both sides of the ball in the likes of tight end Brock Bowers and edge-rusher Maxx Crosby," Davenport wrote. "But the Raiders have a below-average offensive line. The wide receivers aren’t exactly an imposing lot. Linebacker and the defensive backfield are legitimate question marks. This season should be as much about figuring out which needs the team will have to address in 2026 as trying to make the playoffs in 2025. And if the Raiders finish anywhere but last place in the AFC West this season, it will be a step in the right direction."
Can't argue any of that sadly.......
O-Line going to be OK.....Need help in the secondary....

I’ve been avoiding this thread because the fan in me wants to say 12 wins…but I’m aware that’s a fantasy. It’s more likely a 7-8 win season which would be a nice improvement and set up next season as a legitimate playoff threat. I’ll be watching anyway and rooting the team on.

I am there with you. Jeanty is worth maybe 2 more wins, Carroll worth 2 more wins and Geno worth 1 more win, but the regression of the defense is worth -2 winsPfish252000 wrote: Mon Aug 18, 2025 10:12 pm I’ve been avoiding this thread because the fan in me wants to say 12 wins…but I’m aware that’s a fantasy. I am at 7 wins barring a major injury.

In regard to the defense -2. With Max. Koonce and Wilkins gone most of last season, you think the team will be worse with Max and Koonce back hopefully a full season?Attyla wrote: Tue Aug 19, 2025 5:09 am I am there with you. really watching the defense closely, our run D was pretty good last game but they really did not press us there, our secondary was horrible. The score did not reflect what really happened there.Rabidraider wrote: Tue Aug 19, 2025 5:37 am In regard to the defense -2. With Max. Not disagreeing with you but because I really don't know: what is a Pete Carroll DE?NoThanksSir wrote: Mon Aug 18, 2025 10:45 am Thanks for reposting. I think he is referring to the type of DE Carroll typically would like, perhaps build or style of play?raider_kin wrote: Tue Aug 19, 2025 6:58 am Not disagreeing with you but because I really don't know: what is a Pete Carroll DE?

I phrased my question poorly: I meant what style/build.Attyla wrote: Tue Aug 19, 2025 7:17 am I think he is referring to the type of DE Carroll typically would like, perhaps build or style of play?

I am not sure, Carroll seems a guy who wants emotional players, guys who are buy in guys, but I am basing that on a lot of how he does thinks outside of the practice fields.

The one guy that comes to mind is DE/OLB Bruce Irvin. He was considered a reach by all accounts but thrived under Pete.

Bruce Irvin may have been listed as a DE but he was often the SLB in that defense, and who I think Koonce projects to. But they still had Clemons and Avril, who had a bit more size and playing strength. Those 3 guys would end up on the field at the same time fairly often, with Irvin given the RB assignment and being tasked as the extra rusher if the RB hung back in pass pro. So for me it makes perfect sense that Pete is trying out Butler at DE. He'd regularly have 5 pass rushers out there in passing situations. Maybe something like Butler, Wilson, Booker, Crosby, Koonce.raider_kin wrote: Tue Aug 19, 2025 6:58 am Not disagreeing with you but because I really don't know: what is a Pete Carroll DE?

As we see every year, basing wins on what happened the season prior isn't a very effective way of analyzing. Neither are vanilla formations and no game plan in preseason. If we went by the last game, our starting offense averaged 5 points per drive and our defense gave up 1.5 points per 9'er drive.
To extrapolate that into regular season would mean we'd win every game by around 20 points or so. It gets even worse when you judge the regular season by how the 2nd and 3rd teams did.
I'll go with 9 wins. We'll win the games we should, pull out a couple wins against favored teams, and even put a beatdown on a couple. That should get us to nine wins.
Last year was a master class in poor coaching, game planning, and in-game management. We won't have that this season.

No realistic thought of The Raiders making the playoffs this year, but an acceptable consolation would be the Denver Broncos NOT making the playoffs.
