Loved RW while he was here....Than dude f[raiders_icon]cked us over by recommending fat Albert be our new GM. Wolf wanted Reg out of GB so he could seat his kid in the chair.
RM was good at getting the Raiders cap situation under control. Other than that he Was an abject failure.
I doubt Ron Wolf had an agenda regarding Reggie McKenzie. Say what you want about him, he [McKenzie] was better than those who have followed.
Let's see what John Spytek can do.

Let's see what John Spytek can do.
Disagree. Can you honestly say that RM was ready to be a GM?
Hall of Fame general manager Ron Wolf didn't sound as if he was in a celebratory mood after the Green Bay Packers named Brian Gutekunst as their new general manager.
After all, Wolf's 35-year-old son, Eliot, also interviewed for the position to succeed Ted Thompson.
"At least he had the opportunity to interview for it," Ron Wolf told ESPN in a phone interview. "Obviously the people up there don't think he's worthy or they would've hired him. End of discussion."

Of course Ron Wolf was rooting for his son, that doesn't mean he sandbagged the Raiders into hiring RM to give Elliot a better shot at the Packers GM position.
McKenzie assembled a 12-4 football team, the most legitimate contender the Raiders have fielded since their Super Bowl run. I will let that speak for his qualifications as a GM. Since then, who has done any better?
Simply my opinion.
Maybe, but after 1987 Al began throwing haymakers. I agree with you regarding the salary caps negative effect towards Al's way of doing business. It effectively ended the party.
This is a great discussion topic for those of us that remember that era.
agreed, it really is an interesting era for football. I don't think the strike had much to do with the fall from grace though. I do think money and retention is at the core of the fall. Howie crossing the line really killed the labor strike though, and that momentum the players had went with his crossing.
It is why I back the players, they have so little leverage in contract negotiations. The only leverage they have is the percentage of revenue being allotted to the player pay pool.

Simply my opinion.
I agree Reggie wasn’t terrible he was middling to decent, he had his hits & misses but he had a lot of shit to sort out when he got here & he left us in way better condition
Problem was the next few regimes f[raiders_icon]cked it by wasting draft picks & cap space, they didn’t push on from being at best middle tier team that can make an odd playoff appearance to a perennial playoff contender
Here is hoping Carroll & Spytek can push us to the next level

As a player big Reg was awesome. When Reg got hired he had a mess on his hands cap wise. Again Reg was awesome.
However, he could never get the team over the hump to sustainability in the wins column.
Dude went 12-4 to 6-10 and fired the next .
He was fired in Jan this year from Miami as their personnel exec. He was hired there in 2019.

Simply my opinion.
Ron Wolf highly recommended Reggie to Mark (so did Madden), and I'm sure Ron hoped and believed Reggie would be a good GM, but the fact that Ron's son was then promoted to Reggie's old job in Green Bay represented an obvious conflict of interest for the elder Wolf.
And yes, Reggie had one great season as GM, but the team fell apart the next year, suggesting the 12-4 season was a fluke.
The fact that former Executive of the Year Reggie McKenzie has never received a second GM job (and only a handful of interviews) in the six seasons since his departure shows what the NFL in general thinks of his GM abilities.

But was generally solid in round 1 and was excellent in free agency and as a cap manager. Even when his signings didn’t work, he never hamstrung us with bad free agency deals.
I feel like RM + a good scouting department would be a rock solid front office.
But was generally solid in round 1...
Disagree. He had five first-rounders as Raiders GM (not counting Kolton Miller who was likely a Gruden pick).
Mack was a stud.
Amari Cooper was a talented and intermittently productive but sullen diva who didn't want to be here. Not Reggie's fault.
DJ Hayden, Karl Joseph, and Gareon Conley never really played like first-rounders.

After that it’s guys like Hobbs, Mullen, or TJ Carrie for 3rd best in past 35 years so yeah it’s pretty bad. QB isn’t much better, if it all.
Damn shame we didn’t have Wood and Nnamdi playing together from 2003-2013.

Beyond that it seems like your best bet is to avoid drafting them in the 1st and go solely for scheme fit - hope your DC sticks around for a while.
