Translation: He wouldn't have given us the time of day with Mark in charge. And really, why should he have?

That is more an indictment of Dufus than anything I have read. We had to get a winner as a minority owner to offset the loser who was running the team before a proven winner would come here.
Yah but Dufus landed Brady.
Sad he ended his career as a Seahawk…or I think he retired as a Seahawk. I know he played for them after leaving the Raiders.
Bill Pickel was starting to become a force in the interior line after being moved from DE. He began to supplant Kinlaw at NT in 1984 and would later become an All Pro in 1986. You are correct, he moved on the Seattle in 1985 and played two seasons there before retiring.
Kinlaw is one of my favorite Raiders but the young talent on the defensive line in that era was phenomenal.
The Jet's vaunted "New York Sack Exchange" got a lot of hype in those days, much of it deserved but I would put Howie Long, Greg Townsend, Sean Jones and Bill Pickel up against any NFL defensive line, past and present.
From 1983-1986 they averaged 62.25 sacks with most being generated from the front four.
Earl Leggett does not get near the credit he deserves as the DL coach.
Kinlaw played out of his mind in Super Bowls XV and XVIII. The Eagles and Redskins had no answer for him.

There is one D-line that I think is supreme to all: L C Greenwood, Ernie Fats Holmes, Joe Greene, and Dwight White. Back those four up with Jack Ham, Jack Lambert, and Andy Russell and you have easily the best front seven ever to walk on the field. Add Mel Blount, Mike Wagner, and JT Thomas and I always forget the 11th guy and you have the reason why the great Raiders teams of the 70’s only won one Lombardi.

Or I think he was on that Steelers defense in the 1970's, thinking he played in all four of their SB wins.

I saw a mass exodus of high level front office personnel a few years back and accusations of a hostile work environment.

Brady decided to buy into the Raiders after already working with him on the Aces. Spytek and Carroll chose to come here with Davis out of football decisions. Hes gotten high grades in the player ratings.
We all have worked with a likeable buffoon boss. We dont mind the guy if he stays out of the way of actual operations.

I can easily see a scenario where Brady is merely using Davis as a means to an end. He has no children to leave the business to, and he is old and in bad shape, eats like crap. I can see Brady just minding his time. Spytek? The guy is following Brady, not Davis. And Carroll? He knows his window and he knows with Davis out of the picture he has a better chance of actually pulling off the incredible. I think this all came to be because Brady leveraged the art of the deal to get his hands on the franchise.
