Every player whos contract ends that signs elsewhere is assigned a value, each player you sign also has a value. Then they cancel each other out and your comp picks are what is left. I agree that in most years it can be tough to estimate ahead of time but next offseason is a pretty clear cut case that we wont in line to receive any 2027 comp picks due to our huge cap room and lack of talent hitting free agency.Sold My Soul wrote: Mon Aug 25, 2025 8:15 pm It's a complicated formula...if he plays out the entire season and signs elsewhere, Raiders won't be compensated until the '27 season. If the Raiders trade him this year before the trade deadline to a contender, whatever pick they get for him will be a lower end pick because the team will certainly be in the playoffs.
How convoluted is the process.....

I get it...but you have to keep in mind, just because the Raiders have cap space doesn't mean they are going on a spending spree. There are important players whose contract will need to get done in the next couple of years and to me this management team looks like they are content on building the team through the draft.
Gone are the days of dropping bank on players looking to cash in.

So, where could Meyers go? CBS Sports’ John Breech mentioned a couple of landing spots for the player. One is the Minnesota Vikings, who are actively looking for a wide receiver.
“Everybody has a price,” Breech said. “So, if some team were to call the Raiders up and offer a third-round pick, I think that absolutely gets the deal done, but that would probably be overpaying. So, maybe the situation is where a team calls up and offers a fourth-round pick.”

For sure, no way in any football world is Meyers worth that kind of money...NoThanksSir wrote: Mon Aug 25, 2025 1:02 pm I think the players his agent is comping to do a lot more for their offense than Jakobi does. I think it totally makes sense from an agent/player perspective to push for these numbers but Jakobi isn't that kind of player. He can be replaced.

The Raiders paid a #1 and #2 for Devante Adams; then got a #3 when they traded him to the Jets. We acquired Antonio Brown from Pitt for a #3 and a #5. Just some WR trade history.

It's hard to say who's "at fault" in this without knowing how much Meyers is demanding for a contract and what the Raiders are offering. It definitely sucks that the relationship has reached this point though.
I really like Meyers as a player and Cooper is not a proper replacement. IMO if Meyers gets traded then Bech is the more appropriate replacement but rookie WRs often don't shine.

Cooper is just an alternative if Bech craps the bed.

I look at it this way — Coopet is likely almost as good as Meyers at this point and Meyers will bring us a middle round draft choice while saving the money. Also the Cooper signing is an Indication that they like our young receiving corps, as they anticipate granting Meyers his wish. We aren't going to Levi's Stadium next February.

I agree, I still am not sure if we end up trading him, but it is good this team is being proactive.Cruisin with Tooz wrote: Tue Aug 26, 2025 7:03 am Cooper is just an alternative if Bech craps the bed.

I don’t see jakobi moving at this point. If the wheels fall off this team early, a move at the deadline makes sense. He hasn’t held out though so it seems like we probably don’t have a ton of pressure to move him. This could just be a tactic on his end to expedite a deal so the headline goes away.RunOverByHubbard wrote: Tue Aug 26, 2025 7:16 am I look at it this way — Coopet is likely almost as good as Meyers at this point and Meyers will bring us a middle round draft choice while saving the money. I don’t think the cooper thing is a jakobi replacement. I think if anything he’s cheap and probably more reliable then the guys not named jakobi. At this point Tucker hasn’t really proven anything and Thornton and bech are rookies. Cooper and meyers feels like a decent starting two and the 3rd guy can rotate between Thornton, Tucker, and bech.

I agree, the front office isn't letting emotions get in the way of roster evaluations. That, to me, is the best indication that the Raiders will have a much better chance to have sustained success with this management team.haji81872 wrote: Tue Aug 26, 2025 7:26 am I agree, I still am not sure if we end up trading him, but it is good this team is being proactive.

WR's are rotated in and out like most position squads.Cruisin with Tooz wrote: Tue Aug 26, 2025 7:03 am Cooper is just an alternative if Bech craps the bed.
He'll most likely get as much playing time as he earns.

Lol Donte Throton is in no way the "3rd" guy. If anything, he's competing for the WR1 spot, especially with Meyers on his way out.
