I did not have good vibes about Adams, Moss or Rice. Not quoting stats and welcome them from anyone.
Now, Myers is a different vibe. Keep him. That is all - thanks - a "newbie" from Iowa.

Hypocrisy: wife has a Jerry Rice ornament on our Xmas tree. Now, is he the GOAT, or right up in the top three? Yes.
Do we have a problem in recent history (20 years) getting a QB and surrounding OL, etc., to utilize these great receivers? Yes.
Second cup of cappuccino just kicked in so let me get home and mow the backyard.

Believe me I hope he defies the odds like those players. I'm a bit sheepish on Thornton as a rookie because of his style of play. Those guys were ready made route runners and had a more complete skill set coming out. These burner types usually have a rough time adjusting to the physicality of the NFL game, even the 1st rounders. I do think Thornton will get there eventuallyTatum wrote: Tue Aug 26, 2025 3:03 pm The 2nd coming of Puka Nacua? the 2nd coming of Cooper Cupp? the 2nd coming of Hunter Renfrow?
Drink some kool-aid and take your pick.

That's why 30 million doesn't make sense. We just got Cooper for around 5. Jakobi isn't even twice as good as Cooper, but wants 4 to 6x more? 4x I'm ok with, he's earned around there and Cooper's had his day. That's why WR salaries are weird to me, the sliding cost goes up way too much for the incremental gains. Probably could say this with most positions I suppose, I'd probably be Mike Brown the penny pincher GM owner.
The older WR's become much more attractive when they get to where Cooper is at, he is the second best WR we have at this moment in time for a small fraction of the top-tier cost.

I really like Jakobi. He put up a thousand yards last year with crap at QB and a phenomenal TE on the team. It's surprising that Bowers was able to put up record numbers with our QB play. I think it would suck to lose Jakobi right now.

The team likes Jacobi so I think they give him a bump in pay for the year and keep him around.
At least that's my hope.
Coop will more likely steal reps from Thornton Jr than Jakobi Meyers who hasn't had the best of camps and still needs developing.
Aside from the back shoulder TD in the last pre-season game he's hasn't done much.
He's still needs work on his long ball timing with Geno and is somewhat struggling with drops.
Coop.is an instant upgrade and gives the rook that time to develop as mentioned.
Starting WRs: Jacobi, Coop and Tucker.
The WR room was young and Coop brings a much needed vet presence and is now formidable without thinking Bowers.

Cooper was brought in as insurance for Meyers. That's it, and that's all. He is in no way a threat to Thorton who was drafted to be Metcalf Jr. Cooper is a veteran presence who excels at route-running, who Thorton and Bech can learn from. Meyers is on his way out the door, whether it be now or at the end of the season.
Meyers is simply not worth all that money. He barely cracked 1000 yards in his sixth year. Everyone forgets we had Bowers AND Adams for almost half the season that year as well.
Once Meyers became the WR1, he routinely got shut down. His best play was against KC, but even then, he didn't get enough separation to house it (should have been a TD) because he doesn't have the speed. We've tried everything with Meyers: end-arounds, screens, drags, slants, you name it. All he can do is catch the ball and go down. If ALL you are capable of is catching, you damn well better be elite at it.
Jack Bech can do that. Jack Bech can sit in the soft spot in the zone and go down. We don't need to pay 50 million for that. Plus Bech has the potential to do something with it after the catch-- something we know Meyers isn't capable of.
Cooper is more likely to be resigned for another year than Meyers getting overpaid. If Meyers is gone, we lose nothing offensively.

Thornton caught his touchdown pass. Cooper dropped three straight in the end zone two of which hit him directly in his hands, and the third bounced off his shoulder pads when he was watching it the whole time and did not bother to raise his hands. I know, I was there. And Thornton did not admit he half assed it his first time with the Raiders.KillerRaider30 wrote: Wed Aug 27, 2025 10:05 am Over the rookie Dont'e Thornton Jr who drops balls?

Yea, let's see what the rookie has over the guy who thinks he still has "some" juice left. Some, his word not mine.

The unfortunate truth with Amari is that he can drop balls and be more productive than most guys. Maybe he ends up being the washed vet we saw in Buffalo last year. But the year before his production dwarfs any WR on the roster. I'm not expecting 1200 yards but I think he will be a valuable contributor. I was glad we moved on when we did, but this time around he's not costing us a top pick. He's cheap and might overproduce.Attyla wrote: Wed Aug 27, 2025 10:36 am Thornton caught his touchdown pass.
