The Off. Line - Complaints, Fixes, Questions, Draft
Mike Tice once said while coaching for the Raiders: “If you look at the offense like a fancy car, the offensive line is the engine. Even though we might have nice spinners and nice rims and tinted windows and some neat paint job, it doesn’t mean crap without the engine. If the engine’s not working, the car might look like a pretty nice car, but it’s a piece of crap.” And he was 100% right. I wish we had him back. Changes must be made on the O-line. Charles Grant is a very athletic lineman. We should give him some reps at right tackle. Bring back Powers-Johnson as the starter at center. Parham has got to go. Maybe we should consider moving Meredith back to guard. He did so well there last year.

Start moving the pocket to the right away from that motherf[raiders_icon]cker.LayneStaley wrote: Mon Sep 22, 2025 10:19 am
I know I already posted this in another thread but look at this play. This isn’t even Parham being manhandled, this is just straight up confusion on what he’s supposed to be doing just like last week. The interior is confused, it’s like they don’t know what their assignments are.

It seems Carrols son just follows his father around from gig to gig for employment.chucker wrote: Mon Sep 22, 2025 5:48 am I don't mind some nepotism for a low level position like with Deuce Gruden or Pierce's son. If it's an important coaching position like Oline coach, then whoever you hire has to be someone you're willing to fire. Pete should not have hired his inexperienced son in this role. I guess you can just unofficially have Philbin be your oline coach and Pete's son can just be an assistant, but that's not the way to run a unit. The oline was not great last year but it was better after Philbin took over from Cregg and has largely the same personnel this year with disastrous results.

Current lineup
LT: Solid older veteran
LG: an undersized backup at best
C: see comment above (should be JPJ out there)
RG: washed up veteran(Cappa)
RT: an IOL playing outside
Recommended
LT: Miller
LG: Meredith
C: JPJ
RG: Glaze
RT: someone else from our team, another team, or FA
Or any rotation that doesn’t include Parham and hopefully not Cappa

That’s fine. Dad’s looking out for his boy. But to make him the OL coach??? NO. I didn’t know a thing about him preseason. But it’s now crystal clear- he is No OL coach!rich72 wrote: Mon Sep 22, 2025 12:24 pm It seems Carrols son just follows his father around from gig to gig for employment.
Let him be a “special offensive assistant” to the head coach, or some meaningless position. Mofo is destroying our season.

He was the OC/OL coach under Fisch at Arizona and followed him to UofW. As well as asst oline coach under Pete for several yrs. So he does have experience. Anyone know anything about those offenses when he was there? I know Fisch's offense was pretty impressive but didn't know who called plays or what the lines looked like

The annoying thing is he’s actually been an O-line coach in college for years and hasn’t been terrible. Wouldn’t have even got a look by any other term though.chucker wrote: Mon Sep 22, 2025 5:48 am I don't mind some nepotism for a low level position like with Deuce Gruden or Pierce's son. Hopefully he’s going to get the boot soon

Parham and Cappa shouldn't even be in the NFL 🗑LayneStaley wrote: Mon Sep 22, 2025 9:59 am
Not sure how Miller did yesterday but I’m betting not as bad as the interior . Cappa and Parham shouldn’t even be on the team.

Our o-line is bad to the point it’s hard to do anything. Individually parham and glaze seem to get abused every play. Collectively… it’s hard to imagine how JPJ could be worse at calling protections since blitzes seem to lead to untouched pass rushers 100% of the time with the better guy (Meredith) doing that job. In fact, it seems like the only reason teams don’t blitz us every play is because it’s easy enough to beat parham and glaze without sending extra guys.
Geno hasn’t helped himself with some of his decision making but damn… he has been pressured on 42% of his drop backs and Jeanty thru 3 weeks has apparently been hit in the backfield on 57% of his attempts (thru 3 weeks he has more yards after contact then yards).
We need to start tinkering because this lineup is so far past broken.

On the play where Jeanty got 18 yards on the inside zone, Kolton Miller moved three guys out of the way.
