Bosa has an ACL - trade Maxx to the 49ers?
Someone posted in a thread after our loss that we should trade Maxx Crosby for a bunch of (needed) draft picks, thereby increasing our odds of picking at or near the top of the draft in 2026. As we all know, the 49ers just lost a key player on their defense -- after Fred Warner he is their most important defensive player -- and their d-line is not that deep and full of young players. And, the 49ers are in first place in the NFC West and will likely be battling for a playoff spot this season.
At first blush, I am against trading the best player we have drafted in what 25 years. But, in my frustration with the whole damn thing, I am thinking about this. The trade deadline is early November, so you likely will want to see if Carroll and staff can get this bad act together, but unless we start looking a lot better, there will be talk of trades and even, gasp, "tanking." Thoughts?

Generally I agree, but some curves...CWood24 wrote: Thu Sep 25, 2025 9:46 am When you don’t have a QB you should be drafting a QB every year until you find one at the same time as building the line
You can do both at the same time i don't know why people think it is impossible to do both
It is looking like a good year to be needing a QB, there is a long way to go & a few might drop out & go back to school but if we re in a position to get a QB we should take it
I don't think drafting a QB is always the answer for finding a QB because after round 2 it is super rare in the single digit %'s of finding a QB we would be happy with and you can't just say ok draft a QB in round 1 or 2, because your QB(s) may have already been picked. Since those can and will happen, FA is also a very viable path for QB. Some drafts have zero viable QB's to.
Oline, yes once established always keep refreshing through the draft, much more reliable than star needing to align for a QB. But to first get a good oline it may require FA, imo our line as it stands now needs Vet proven FA influx unless our current rooks next year are really ready but they still fail the proven metric. We're leaning too much as fans thinking a non-blue chip rookie lineman are ready to go up against seasoned pro's.

You’re missing the point.Opoponax50 wrote: Thu Sep 25, 2025 9:47 am That's a fine idea until you consider just how much this defense is missing. Wilkins shit out and neither Koonce or Wilson is coming through this year. We lost our best LB to New England, and as of this moment I can't remember the names of any of our CBs... or our D-linemen for that matter.
Maxx will be washed by the time we're able to acquire those pieces and by then he won't be worth anything in draft capital. It was the same thing with Carr's status. We had the chance to likely trade him for two firsts, but then the following two years he proved just how little he was actually worth.
In Maxx's case, it's different. He's a known Pro Bowl caliber player at the second most important position on the field. His talent and work ethic are unquestionable. We may be able to get two late firsts from him for a team looking for that last piece. Buffalo would be a good candidate. So would Detroit to put opposite Aidan Hutchinson.
Yes, we'd end up with low first rounders, but those could be used to trade up. Maybe even better, it would force the team to take potentially solid contributors that would be part of the team for years rather than trying to win the draft lottery in the top 10.
The conntention is not so long ago that Maxx was our best player on defense and we should build around him. Now not so much?

Said this for the last 2 yrs but all good whatever happens happen. Every year they wait his value goes down. We aren’t going anywhere with him, for the most part the rest of the D is trash including the D coach.
What i think and for that matter nothing we post here will ever make a difference and we’ll still have a bottom rung, non contender team is a division that gets better every season.
We brought in a big name head coach to counter the Chargers bringing in a big name head coach yet they already had a decent team to start with and their big name head coach has a lot more years to coach than our big name head coach, ours is nothing more than a couple year stop Gap to say we tried.

So? You don’t think he’d wanna go to a contender do you think he wants to sit here, no matter what he says, and play out his career on a mediocre bottom of the barrel team? You don’t think he wants to play with the big boys compare himself to the greats? Don’t kill yourself he says all the right things because that’s the kind of guy he is, but he’s not gonna turn down the trade to a contender or even some of these close to a contender.

Philly ran mostly zone defense NA and the raiders played almost exclusively man.Bad fit for Eagles scheme.Oaktown Superman wrote: Wed Sep 24, 2025 2:19 pm I wonder if Maxx on another team would be another NA21? Was great with the Raiders but looked lost in Philly. Maybe it was the scheme Philly used?

Also, there are very few teams actually worse than us so I don’t think they no trade clause would be that big of an issue.

teams that do not listen to trade offers are teams that never figure out how to win. You have to listen because it is easy to say no to a trade offer that does not make sense. It becomes harder when the offers do make sense simply because that line is not always easy to see. But on the day that the offer is vastly in your favor, not listening can cost you.
It would have to be the third option for me to trade Maxx but it does not have to be an out of the park hit to make a deal, just one that improves the team and sets us up for future success.
Frankly, tired of losing and those two playoff berths we did get are like going to the prom and your girl runs off with some other guy.

I was. Not anymore. By the time this team is ready to compete for anything, Maxx will be 30 at least.... not old, but with his surgically repaired knee, his penchant for playing every down and his tenacity/motor.... he will be used up. If this team was a contender for years to come, right now... hell yea.... Raider for life. Unfortunately, reality says it will be a while.

Niners are now 4-1 and Rat Jr gave up the farm for Trey Young.
I think we could get some picks of Maxx is that is the route we want to go.

Maxx doesnt make those around him better which is something that bugs me about him. He is a finesse player that uses speed and leverage. He never beats up the opposing players, he just tricks them and runs past them. If you dont physically beat the opposing players down then they are still at full strength the entire game, and mildly frustrated.Willmark wrote: Thu Sep 25, 2025 5:55 am Wouldn’t the best thing to do on defense be to build around the best player?
