I'm hearing that people in the Hondo universe are saying that he will definitely release two hour videos. Nothing is confirmed though, and there's a possibility that there will be no videos.DanKD wrote: Mon Jan 05, 2026 11:55 am But you will see seven two hour long videos from Hondo saying absolutely nothing with no inside info

So, here is where this gets interesting. We hired Pete and everyone knew he was going to impose his will on things. Everything from free agency to the draft and quite obviously trading for Geno. He was the big fish in a little pond. So Spytek had to kind of dance when the head coach said he needed to dance. The ensuing mistakes were because Spytek could not really stretch his legs and take command.
Now we will hire a guy who can partner with the GM. Perhaps the results will be more in line with a vision for the future, something Pete would not have been able to do due to age

I would hope so. I gotta imagine in the next week or so it's a mass exodus.RunOverByHubbard wrote: Mon Jan 05, 2026 10:55 am Wouldn't we expect the new coach and Spytek to clean house -- as in goodbye to Graham and Olson as well as the sons and cousins of Carroll?

Agreed, rebuilding especially with the 1st overall and a very good qb prospect available at 1, is not as hard as it use to be in today's NFL. Raiders need to prioritize signing 2-3 quality young vets on the o-line in free agency and use most of the draft on defence after the first pick. If we get the right coach and staff we could be competing (not necessarily winning) by 2027/ 2028.chucker wrote: Mon Jan 05, 2026 11:22 am I think the idea that we have the worst situation is ridiculous. The Raiders have the #1 draft pick among 10 total draft picks - plus the second most cap space in the league, without losing any key FAs. It's an attractive destination and I think it could be argued that it's the most attractive destination for some candidates. But people get paid to make lists...... and it really doesn't matter what they think in the end.

I get what you're saying but this organization has showed me nothing but ineptitude for twenty years now and not much reason for hope moving forward...and as it turns out, PC was perhaps the worst bridge ever and I was not on board with the hire from day 1 and was ridiculed for saying so.heavyD wrote: Mon Jan 05, 2026 8:57 am If hiring the right coach was easy there wouldn’t be the masses of firings every black Monday. To be fair Pete has winning pedigree and I don’t think anyone would have predicted that the Raiders finish last place and worse than AP. They clearly went after the right guy in Johnson but once he was out of the running, the pickings were slim and they probably looked at Pete as a bridge who could set up a foundation. It didn’t work out but picking 1st overall is a really nice parting gift. This hiring cycle looks even worse and we have to hope that the Raiders braintrust finally gets one of these hire right.
The first overall pick as you know, are reserved every year for the very worst team in the league, and IMO, that first pick was achieved because of Pete, not in spite of him.
...do I hope the Raiders management will finally push the right buttons?...of course. Do I think they will?...I suppose we'll have to wait and see.
Call me "cautiously optimistic".

Agreed, this is where things hopefully take the right turn, I can't imagine a real good season record wise, but if we can start to ink in the foundation to this thing, it's a great start, competitive, creates hope. It's quite possibly going to take 2 offseasons to get pieces to start building on.Attyla wrote: Mon Jan 05, 2026 12:02 pm So, here is where this gets interesting. I was way off with my analysis of Carroll. I thought we would get a mature, well vetted staff. The polar opposite of Pierce.
Caroll's first presser was the canary in the coal mine. We had premeditated our decisions. He said we would hire guys he's familiar with, retain guys in the building, and hire outside guys. That tells me, Patrick Graham was on scholarship, Chip Kelly was Brady's choice, and Carroll got his kids a job.
I think it's sensible to fire the guy with us drafting a QB 1st overall. But for the love of god, stop trying to reinvent the wheel. Hire a young bright offensive mind as HC. Have him defer to Spytek for personnel. Let him hire his own staff/DC. Just do things normal for once.

He put together a staff and had to fire 2 of his co-ordinator choices in the first year. If that doesn't destroy any confidence in him then I'm not sure what it would take.

Just listened to the Spytek PC.
He has already had discussions with staff still on contract. (No details)
Admits good players got away last year and he needs to do better
Will meet with rookie class and explain this is the time to “pop out” and make a transition to next year.
He is in constant communication with Brady
Asked about Geno “He is still under contract” didn’t elaborate

Letting those good players get away last year might work out for us..... One more win and we'd still be in QB hell. And we got some comp picks and we have lots of cap space. This year we may as well spend cap because our FA class isn't going to reap any comp pick rewards.

Another sad day in Mudville. The fact we celebrate another coaches firing means another epic fail.
