Free Agency thread for Raiders and league-wide

Post by RunOverByHubbard »

Free agency opens March 11. CBS Sports has their top 50 ranking. No Raiders on the list. I am surprised at a couple rated high - Aaron Rodgers and Daniel Jones. Lots of wide receivers

I think Romeo Doubs would be a better and cheaper option

I agree a WR1 is a huge need, but we have holes all over the roster. With a lot of cap and draft capital our GM can significantly improve our roster, if he does and we hit on Mendoza we might be an over 500 type team. However, with all these holes it’s just as important to identify which position groups you won’t address or just mildly invest in. I don’t see it a wise move to invest $20ish M in a WR this offseason. I think the investments will be in the trenches and the defense as a whole this year.

I generally prefer to address receiver in the draft given their cap cost and career arc relative to other positions.

I agree.I feel like its best to protect the qb and get the running game going to take the load off of a young qb.Give Mendoza assuming hes the qb the best chance to develop.A wr1 seems like a luxury at this point.Still have Bowers and if get the running game going would be a good combo for next season

A WR1 is not as big a need as you guys are making it out to be. We can get by with Bowers and some solid 2s. Especially when you have a solid TE2 bc Bowers will always be our "WR1".

I think the biggest issue with The Raiders' current roster is no one has a real clear picture of what The Raiders have with last year's poor coaching and player development.

They had a really good WR they traded for a stale bag of nachos and a flat root beer.

We need a WR#1 bad. We may not be able to get it done this year, but it is a big need. We need to protect/elevate/optimally use Mendoza, Jeanty, and BB. Tucker is a decent player but FAR from a WR#1. Bech and Thornton are big question marks (they should have obviously been given more reps) but are promising (for whatever that is worth).

Who's the Rams scout who found Puka and Kupp?

Puka ran a 4.57 sec 40 meter at the combine which is below average. Not many teams would have invested a high pick especially given his production was nothing special. Rams just got lucky kind of like how Mayock got lucky with Crosby.

We must get two starting OL in FA to protect Mendoza.

We need Linderbaum or McGovern at center. If they both resign with their teams then I would overpay a bit for Cade Mays, young and improving each season.

Seumalo is my choice at guard, but David Edwards would be fantastic as well and if we could get he and McGovern then we would get two darn good players who are familiar with each other.

Ive always liked the mindset of drafting the higher contract positions and getting lower contract positions in free agency whenever possible. But you cant always get what u want
