So if we get similar or better value in return then it can be a deal? That's always fair, not necessarily right, but fair.BoKnows81 wrote: Thu Feb 26, 2026 6:49 am I don't think anyone hates Maxx. I don't. But I don't sweat his nuts like some on here do.
The only thing with picks is it's a perceived value vs realized.
Al - "the odds of multiple Pro Bowl appearances are considerably lower, likely falling below 20-25% for a typical 1st/2nd round combination."
We assume positivity with future picks, (Jesus in cleats syndrome) but overall we slant towards the negative on known things, team, players what have you after we see them play.
To me that is a mental trap we repeat. The grass is greener saying...
As for loving his nuts... if there is a player to love his nuts with on this Team, Maxx is at the top, Bowers to.
The hate he gets are based words and way more often those words are positive and his negatives aren't legendary diva words, imo.
The love is for his dedication from practice to all-in on game day getting results.
So who's more based here? One based on field results or those not liking off-field tweets?
A lot of general fans that don't go into the weeds like forum posters here, LOVE MAXX and they will be shocked if we trade him.
If that happens it will be like shit we got Mendoza (again love) but then we turn around a trade Maxx, wtf is happening? (confused)
We'll see...

Too bad he couldn't of archived it. The guy drove me nuts. Let's just all stipulate (for you lawyers on the thread) that Maxx is a hell of a football player. But, for me, we are in such a need to move on from the past. The team we love has STUNK for so long, it is time to throw out most of the babies with the bath water and start over. We don't have a good core nucleus of young players. We have 3 or 4. A trade of Crosby will be helpful in helping meeting Big Al's prophesy -- the greatness of the Raiders...blah, blah, blah.

So, just to drill down a bit. You want to move on from Maxx to move on and start over. Your words. Why not Bowers too? He is part of the past. Why not Jeanty, he was drafted by one of the worst coaching selections since, um, Pierce and McDaniels. Um, and Gruden and wow, we have a literal litany of bad coaches going back literally decades. But back to my point, if you use that logic to move on from Maxx, it stands to reason that same logic should apply to everyone possible. I mean if you want a clean slate, that means everyone from the past.RunOverByHubbard wrote: Thu Feb 26, 2026 11:23 am Let's just all stipulate (for you lawyers on the thread) that Maxx is a hell of a football player. chucker wrote: Thu Feb 26, 2026 6:45 am I like that the price of 2 first round picks and a player is out there because it demonstrates that the Raiders are only willing to move on if they get a strong return. But it's not a very specific value. For example if the Pats offer 2 firsts and Stephon Diggs. 2 late firsts and a 32 year old WR with a hefty cap charge of his own and a looming personal conduct issue is probably worth less than something like the #10 pick alone in 2026.
The Micah trade comes up a lot, which is not exactly apples to apples, but it’s not a bad comp because although Micah is probably the better player, the Cowboys probably didn’t absolutely maximize the trade like they could have — they waited until right before the season, Micah was publicly disgruntled, they still got two firsts and a player but it was two likely late 1sts and a guy in his 30s.
I think two late 1sts would do it. I’d also take one mid-high 1st … maybe we can get a mid-high 1st and a starting player? Aside from the cowboys at 12, the Rams own 13 and 29 and are in better shape to trade for Maxx than the Boys. I wonder if we could get 13 + a starting quality player at a position of need from them?

The reason to trade Maxx now, if in fact they do, is in a year or two his value diminishes. He is about as high of value at this moment in time as he will get. Highly doubt he’ll be worth more next year. It’s arguably reasonable to assume a couple players that are productive can produce the same results, for less and at a younger age to fit into a timeline of our rebuild.
The reason you don’t trade Jeanty and Bowers is because they are young and have obvious talent to definitely fit into our rebuild timeline.

I was using Hubbard's logic, and did not factor in age.Viper wrote: Thu Feb 26, 2026 12:10 pm The reason to trade Maxx now, if in fact they do, is in a year or two his value diminishes. You didn’t read my thread closely enough. I said throw out MOST of the babies with the bathwater and that we have a core of three or four good young players. Of course I’m not arguing for trading Bowers or Jeanty.Attyla wrote: Thu Feb 26, 2026 11:51 am So, just to drill down a bit. You want to move on from Maxx to move on and start over. Your words. I took it to the extreme. If you are purging just to purge players from old regimes, I think you should not make exceptions. I mean, that only makes sense. Bowers got IR'd as well, he is probably pissed at the team.RunOverByHubbard wrote: Thu Feb 26, 2026 1:18 pm You didn’t read my thread closely enough. I'm still cautious, sure you can package it up nicely like that but that doesn't make it the right move.RunOverByHubbard wrote: Thu Feb 26, 2026 11:23 am Let's just all stipulate (for you lawyers on the thread) that Maxx is a hell of a football player. I think we're dreaming a little, in the moment now a top DE isn't a huge thing and finding one isn't hard. Hmmm....

Tyree Wilson suddenly "gets it?" Kahlil Mack comes back and "still has it?" We use our high 2nd round pick on an DE? I doubt it, not when you look at the OL and the entire defense. Wherever one turns, there is a hole in the roster except for (IMO) RB, WR, QB, and TE.SkullCrusher wrote: Thu Feb 26, 2026 2:47 pm I'm still cautious, sure you can package it up nicely like that but that doesn't make it the right move.

This. What I’d also add… we already have tons of capital. If 90m in cap, the #1 pick, the #36 pick isn’t sufficient for our front office to improve the team… the problem will be that our front office is incompetent, not that they lacked the resources to build.SkullCrusher wrote: Thu Feb 26, 2026 2:47 pm I'm still cautious, sure you can package it up nicely like that but that doesn't make it the right move.

Being smart with these resources and building around Maxx is an entirely viable strategy

Front 7
With Maxx under contract he will be one of the OLBs giving the ability to roam from the D gap to the B gap. With this move Maxx would be a nightmare allowing the Raiders to disguise fronts and blitz packages. Maxx is a problem now playing mostly with his hand in the dirt on the right side. I can only imagine when hes set free.
Resign Koonce and play him at the other OLB.
Resign Jamal Adams
-can Jamal Adams play middle linebacker in a 3-4
Ai
Yes Run Support: His aggressive "see ball, get ball" mentality translates well to the box, where he can shoot gaps and fill running lanes.
Hybrid Versatility: His background as a safety allows him to cover tight ends and running backs more effectively than many traditional, heavier inside linebackers.
Key Strengths for the 3-4 ILB Role
Blitzing:
Adams remains one of the most effective blitzing defensive backs in NFL history (holding the single-season sack record for a DB with 9.5 in 2020).
Run Support: His aggressive "see ball, get ball" mentality translates well to the box, where he can shoot gaps and fill running lanes.
Can Edmunds play ILB in a 3/4 28yo has been mostly injury free averaging 1 missed game per year in 8 seasons.
Ai
Yes, Tremaine Edmunds is widely considered an ideal fit for an inside linebacker (ILB) role in a 3-4 defense due to his rare combination of size (6'4", 251 lbs) and sideline-to-sideline speed.
While he has primarily played middle linebacker in 4-3 systems with the Buffalo Bills and Chicago Bears, analysts frequently argue that his best NFL fit is as a 3-4 ILB.
Why he fits a 3-4 ILB Role
Athletic Range: His 4.54-second speed allows him to cover the entire field, a necessity for a 3-4 ILB who must often cover tight ends and running backs in space.
Physical Prototype: Standing at 6'4", he has a massive wingspan that effectively "shrinks the windows" for opposing quarterbacks in the middle of the field.
Scheme Protection: In a 3-4, the two inside linebackers are often "protected" by three large defensive linemen, allowing Edmunds to use his athleticism to pursue ball carriers without being constantly engaged by offensive guards.
Production: Edmunds has recorded at least 100 tackles in all eight of his NFL seasons (2018–2025), proving his consistency as a high-volume tackler regardless of the defensive front.
I read Chicago is looking for a 4th and 6th and that may be negotiable especially considering our draft spot.
Koonce, Maxx, Adams and Edmunds would be a good start building the LB core.
Additional issues are NT, 3/4 DE x2
Can Wiilson play DE in a 34 where he needs to set the edge and play solid run support leaving the pass rush to the other DE and the OLBs?
I can see them signing a 3/4 DE of quality. The Raiders have 1 big contract on the entire team, Maxx. So we have the cap.
Thoughts?
