It just so happens that the only jersey numbers currently available for Mendoza to choose from are:
0, 3, 7, 8, 15, 16, 19
Some of those are likely to be taken by players yet to be numbered, but 15 should remain available for him

He will be 15, I have no doubt. Two years, maybe touch more and he will be the best 15 in Raiders history. It will take some work but two years should get him past Hoss. And Hoss was a stud for his time here.

Hoss was good, a very good QB for us and he did it under some horrible coaching. Those shoes are not going to be easy to fill. He is easily one of the top 5 in franchise history. Stabler, Plunkett, Gannon and LaMonica are the top, but Hoss rounds out the group.BoKnows81 wrote: Sat Mar 14, 2026 3:54 am Lol if he's not better than Hostetler, we have a serious problem.

Hoss is a very underrated qb for this franchise. I agree there's those guys, then Hoss. If there were different circumstances, he probably would've win more but this time frame (give or take a year or two) was more or less the beginning of the end for Al and this franchiseAttyla wrote: Sat Mar 14, 2026 5:00 am Hoss was good, a very good QB for us and he did it under some horrible coaching. Lol saying he was top 5 for us isn't saying much. And "very good QB for us" is a serious stretch. I'd lean more towards decent.Attyla wrote: Sat Mar 14, 2026 5:00 am Hoss was good, a very good QB for us and he did it under some horrible coaching. Those shoes are not going to be easy to fill. Regardless, my statement still stands that if Mendoza isn't better than Hoss, we have a serious problem.

I must say I would hope the bar is set a lot higher than Hoss lolBoKnows81 wrote: Sat Mar 14, 2026 5:29 am Lol saying he was top 5 for us isn't saying much. And "very good QB for us" is a serious stretch. I'd lean more towards decent.

Hoss struggled with injuries his last two seasons with the Raiders. He played at a Pro Bowl level when he was with us and that's when the Pro Bowl actually meant something. The 1993 team in particular really came on down the stretch.

Those were are days where we could have challenged the Olympic relay team for gold. Gault, Jett, Wright and Ismail.

I would bet the Raiders have the #15 pulled aside already.Arsenal Raider wrote: Fri Mar 13, 2026 11:12 pm It just so happens that the only jersey numbers currently available for Mendoza to choose from are:

Just saying he doesn’t just step in being the best 15.BoKnows81 wrote: Sat Mar 14, 2026 3:54 am Lol if he's not better than Hostetler, we have a serious problem.
He has to earn it which I’m sure he will. Took a few years for Marcus to earn the top 32 spot.

Understood but I never said he would immediately be great. But by Year 2 I expect him to be leaps and bounds better than a mediocre Jeff Hostetler.RN4L75 wrote: Sat Mar 14, 2026 10:24 am Just saying he doesn’t just step in being the best 15.

Oh, expectations should be high considering his draft status and our needs at QB. Expectations were high for Peyton Manning and pretty much every QB that was taken first overall. Most seemed to succeed, some wearing different laundry than the team that drafted them.BoKnows81 wrote: Sat Mar 14, 2026 10:31 am Understood but I never said he would immediately be great. QB's taken #1 since the merger (27).
Elite Franchise QB's: Peyton Manning, John Elway, Joe Burrow, Troy Aikman, Baker Mayfield, Carson Palmer, Andrew Luck, Mathew Stafford. Eli Manning.
Good starters with elite moments: Jim Plunkett, Stever Bartowski, Jared Goff, Drew Bledsoe, Alex Smith, Cam Newton, Michael Vick, Vinny Testaverde.
Jury is still out, but their stock is rising: Caleb Williams, Trevor Lawrence.
Complete busts: Jameis Winston, Jeff George, Bryce Young, Kyler Murrey, Tim Couch, David Carr and our very own JaMarcus Russell.
7 won Superbowls.
12 took their team to the Super Bowl.
Jeff George had some good seasons but he was a dick. Jameis Winston is a pic machine. The rest are obvious busts. This list is from memory so I may have left someone out.
Odds are in our favor at the casino.
