Free Agency thread for Raiders and league-wide
Free agency opens March 11. CBS Sports has their top 50 ranking. No Raiders on the list. I am surprised at a couple rated high - Aaron Rodgers and Daniel Jones. Lots of wide receivers

I'm sure at least 26 teams are willing to talk about a minimum salary contract. This seems like a tweet put out by Schefter in exchange for getting inside info - "I talk big about your weird client, and you give me the first scoop at a later date". There's a ton of that in the NFL information business.FlyBono24 wrote: Fri Mar 20, 2026 4:48 pm Not sure this is accurate. 26 teams? Doesn't the UFL only have 8 teams?

If someone DOES sign him to a big new deal, will that affect either the amount of money we still owe him and/or the Raider’s dead cap hit?

Nope. The Raiders are paying him 29.7M and thats guaranteed and is the dead cap hit this year. Anything he makes this year doesn't effect what the Raiders are paying him.Deejgoettel wrote: Sat Mar 21, 2026 8:29 am If someone DOES sign him to a big new deal, will that affect either the amount of money we still owe him and/or the Raider’s dead cap hit?
If Wilkins wins his case the Raiders we'll owe him an additional 22M which is his non-guaranteed salary. How that fits into the cap idk.
Corrections welcome.

All of Wilkins' dead money relates to signing bonus already paid. There are no offsets for that, so if he signs with another team then there are still no cap savings to the Raiders related to that dead money. The one thing that could have an impact would be if Wilkins' wins his grievance, which would result in the Raiders paying him some cash for the 2026 season - if that happened then there might be offsets to those liabilities arising from the grievance.
It's too nebulous and uncertain to worry about right now but the grievance process will be interesting.

I saw that one coming, but nobody else seemed to. Got roasted online at the time for vehemently opposing the Wilkins signing.raider_kin wrote: Fri Mar 20, 2026 7:08 am I don't blame Telesco for Wilkins, nobody saw that one coming, just like nobody saw Ruggs happening.
The Ruggs incident was nearly impossible to see coming though, had no idea.

You were right. That should be a lesson not to ignore a player who constantly tries to finger others players bums on the fieldArsenal Raider wrote: Sat Mar 21, 2026 1:12 pm I saw that one coming, but nobody else seemed to. Got roasted online at the time for vehemently opposing the Wilkins signing.

Seahawks signed WR Jaxon Smith-Njigba to a four-year, $168.6 million contract extension.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter was the first to report the deal. The 2025 NFL Offensive Player of the Year and Super Bowl Champion will sign the richest contract extension for a receiver in NFL history, which includes $120 million in guaranteed money. JSN is coming off back-to-back 100-catch seasons and went for 119-1,793-10 last season while averaging a career-high 15.1 YPR, and came up big in the playoffs, scoring twice in three playoff games on the way to a Super Bowl title. This extension comes just days after the Seahawks exercised JSN’s fifth-year option and will now keep him under contract through 2031.

I think its actually like a 6 year contract, hes going into his 4th year and they picked up his 5th year option, so its not as crazy as it looks.mstrbass2000 wrote: Mon Mar 23, 2026 8:33 am Seahawks signed WR Jaxon Smith-Njigba to a four-year, $168.6 million contract extension.

I don’t know all of the details but I assume most of this boils down to his questionable conduct with other players but what about the fact that the Raiders wanted him to have surgery but he disagreed and almost a year later is still rehabbing? There has to be something in contract language when it comes to players unable to play long term due to not following team doctor recommendations.KillerRaider30 wrote: Sat Mar 21, 2026 9:24 am Nope. Yeah the Ruggs thing was one of those unexpected things that just hits us Raider fans more often than other franchises for some reason (think Barrett Robbins, Gruden’s emails, etc).Arsenal Raider wrote: Sat Mar 21, 2026 1:12 pm I saw that one coming, but nobody else seemed to. Ruggs was already one of the very best deep threats in the whole league, legitimately. He had good hands too. What a kick in the balls
