Free Agency thread for Raiders and league-wide
Free agency opens March 11. CBS Sports has their top 50 ranking. No Raiders on the list. I am surprised at a couple rated high - Aaron Rodgers and Daniel Jones. Lots of wide receivers

Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio reports Travis Kelce has a $40 million roster bonus in 2028.
The upshot here is that his three-year contract is effectively a one-year deal that will give both sides a chance to decide about 2027 when 2027 comes, but NFL media did a collective spit take when Ian Rapoport reported that Kelce was signing a three-year, $54.7 million contract. To spell it out a little more clearly: The Rotoworld blurb team has as much of a chance of getting Kelce’s $40 million roster bonus in 2028 as he does.

If you want to play, he’s a good guy to backup.

Over the past years I've read many posters say, they want Aidan O'Connell no where close to this team, and others say, he's backup material only.
Well here you go.
Which is it?
I think O'Connell should be the backup, finally, and they should draft a #3 who they think has potential in the system.
A rook on minimum is not rocket science Raiders.

What's Flacco resigning have to do with Aidan O'Connell being our backup or not. AO12 is f[raiders_icon]cking garbage and Raider fans have to take their blinders off and stop trying to convince themselves and others that he's backup worthy. He's not. You've seen his ceiling. We all have. Its ugly. He's a #3, at best.KillerRaider30 wrote: Tue Mar 24, 2026 3:26 pm Over the past years I've read many posters say, they want Aidan O'Connell no where close to this team, and others say, he's backup material only.

The lack of development? The 3 OCs and HCs hes had in his first 3 years? Or the miserable offensive line he played behind.

I heard that Sam Darnold is a #3 at best - and it was said with absolute certainty. Since then he has had 2 4000+ yard, 14 win seasons and won a SB.
I don't think O'Connell is going to light anything up like that and I'm not convinced he's the right backup for the Raiders because he's never worked in this system, but he's a capable backup NFL QB. And he has been put in absolutely horrible situations since he entered the league.

AOC has concrete legs. Can barely slide away from pressure. I wanted him to do well. But he can't get out of his own way.

Exactly. But ya know, Sam Darnold and Joe Flacco are somehow relevant to this conversation smh.Rabidraider wrote: Tue Mar 24, 2026 4:08 pm AOC has concrete legs. Can barely slide away from pressure. I wanted him to do well. But he can't get out of his own way.
The reality is, if AO12 was on any other team, NOBODY would think he's a capable backup QB.

Joe Flacco is somehow relevant because he signed with the Bengals today, but it was also reported today that Flacco had interest from the Las Vegas Raiders, among others. But he liked the setup in Cincinnati coming off last season.
Darnold is somehow relevant as a cautionary tale that the same guy might have definitively said that Darnold and AOC third string at best...... and might have already been proven very wrong about one of those.

Funny... was that the same guy that wanted Darnold over Geno and got absolutely CLOBBERED on here by everyone who said Darnold was trash?
And to be fair, when I said that about Darnold, he was playing like a 3rd stringer on his 3rd team in 6 years. Not to mention, some were STILL calling him garbage at the end of his Vikings tenure for how he fell off. I still wanted him. Darnold never hit his celling until he got to Minn, didn't/doesn't have the limitations that AO12 has and he was the 3rd pick in the draft. That's the difference.
But if it makes you feel better constantly bringing up a time 3 years ago that I made a comment and ended up being wrong (somewhat, not very), go ahead Mod.

I believe I've brought it up twice. Just to point out that you're no more an authority than others on here. We're all wrong plenty. You could be wrong about O'Connell too. The fact that I'm a mod doesn't mean I can't discuss that many of your "facts" aren't facts, they are opinions and predictions. Like everyone else's. And I don't think you were CLOBBERED, I think some people disagreed and most of them disagreed respectively. Which is kind of the point.BoKnows81 wrote: Tue Mar 24, 2026 4:50 pm Funny... was that the same guy that wanted Darnold over Geno and got absolutely CLOBBERED on here by everyone who said Darnold was trash?
