The Off. Line - Complaints, Fixes, Questions, Draft

Post by erickench »

Mike Tice once said while coaching for the Raiders: “If you look at the offense like a fancy car, the offensive line is the engine. Even though we might have nice spinners and nice rims and tinted windows and some neat paint job, it doesn’t mean crap without the engine. If the engine’s not working, the car might look like a pretty nice car, but it’s a piece of crap.” And he was 100% right. I wish we had him back. Changes must be made on the O-line. Charles Grant is a very athletic lineman. We should give him some reps at right tackle. Bring back Powers-Johnson as the starter at center. Parham has got to go. Maybe we should consider moving Meredith back to guard. He did so well there last year. :cuss:

....you may well be right, and especially when we have to assume Miller will miss significant time again, which isn't so much me knocking him, but instead just facing that reality based on past history. ...it is a tough sport, and there are plenty of good players who can't make it through a season without missing some time, though with all of our needs leading in to this last draft, I also think that that is part of the beauty of the Zuhn pick, is that even if he ends up inside, it would not be a stretch to think that he could hold down the fort at tackle for a stretch, in a pinch., and with the depth a guard to be able to have that covered were he to start there and have to move outside for a while

Next year might be a good one to look for Miller's replacement in the draft. The projected run on QBs in the 1st should work in our favor.

Was thinking the exact thing, Zuhn is the wild card here. He may not become the best at anything but instead pretty good at many. Versatility on the line, with so many injuries, is important. You hear broadcasters sometimes mention during games how many different starting offensive line units have started games throughout the season for different teams and it’s staggering sometimes.

We’re at the stage of still acquiring starters let alone quality depth.

He's a fit for the Kubiak/Dennison offensive line scheme and can play multiple positions well.

I don't know why you don't understand why he don't understand why

Where was I going with that?

Zuhn fits the scheme. He can play up and down the line at every position.

Subtraction of Brennan Carroll and addition of Dennison is about as good a start to fixing the O line as we could have hoped for. That and competent play calling.

And I don't care how much it cost, having an all pro at center making the line calls

Miller, Glaze, Grant and Zuhn is more than enough. Even if you think Glaze should move to G he’s been a T in the league for 2 years. Zuhn was announced as a G but is getting snaps at T and played T in college. Yes, it’s not the best room in the league but it’s got enough talent for this coming year. Let’s see how they do with proper coaching.

Linderbaum will be a major steadying force in the middle and will help get the oline to play in sync.
He's a big get.

Sure our coaches sucked ass last year. We got rid of trash who should have never been on our roster, never mind starting. We also added one of the best centers in football. That being said, we potentially still have problems. Glaze should not be starting (no way/no how). Our OG's are a question mark. I wished we did more solidifying the OL but its water under the bridge at this point in time and we can only hope for the best.
