Injured or not, playing center or guard, I have not been impressed with JPJ yet.

Came in with one helluva pedigree but injury and some screwing around with the coaching staff has not helped his case. His style lends itself to injury. He needs to control his angry style of play.RunOverByHubbard wrote: Thu Jun 11, 2026 11:16 pm Injured or not, playing center or guard, I have not been impressed with JPJ yet.

If JPJ does not pan out, we are in BIG trouble. The position was already thin. I do not believe the noise about the coaching staff not liking him. I think they knew enough about him going into this (and would have drafted Pregnon if they were not comfortable with JPJ).

There are options out there. Zeitler is 36 but he could come in and start at guard. It would be a short term solution but he would also be pretty cheap. Glasgow is a bit younger but he can play all three interior positions. Again, a short term solution but the point is, there are guys out there waiting for injuries or releases to allow them to fill in.RI RAIDER wrote: Fri Jun 12, 2026 7:09 am If JPJ does not pan out, we are in BIG trouble. Why would it be big trouble? What's he done that it'll be a huge blow to the line if he isn't here or isn't good enough? The biggest thing he's accomplished is being hurtRI RAIDER wrote: Fri Jun 12, 2026 7:09 am If JPJ does not pan out, we are in BIG trouble. The position was already thin. Exactly. I don't think they are relying on him. If he steps up its a huge bonus but right now he is a big ?Hellbound wrote: Fri Jun 12, 2026 8:54 am Why would it be big trouble? So you are assuming we are good at OG? I think we are very thin there. I will admit JPJ has not done much (especially considering his injuries). However, I believe most had him penciled in as the starter. Who are we starting there? Please do not say Burford. I am not a pessimist, but he may not even be better than Parham (if that is possible).

The reality is we are only good at LT and C. That's been the case all offseason. Unfortunately, JPJ was a starter by default.RI RAIDER wrote: Fri Jun 12, 2026 9:06 am So you are assuming we are good at OG? I think we are very thin there. Burford, Meredith, Rogers, JPJ are all in the same bottom tier at guard IMO. As I stated earlier, this team did not do nearly enough to address the O line. They appear to be relying mostly on coaching. I'm hoping Zuhn can take over one of the guard spots but that remains to be seen.

Rogers will finish the season as our best guard and an above average starter. Calling it.

My guess is that Burford will surprise people and be pretty good.DanKD wrote: Fri Jun 12, 2026 9:27 am Rogers will finish the season as our best guard and an above average starter. Calling it.

I will take ANYONE to be a surprise. We need it. What a sin that this team failed to do more with the OL. With the investments we made on offense, one would think more attention would have been paid to the line. I know Rome was not built in a day. I just want Mendoza and Jeanty to have a legit chance at success.
