All evidence is that they love the guy. I love seeing him on the field. He is old school in how he plays the game. No mercy but also no stop all the time. It used to be you wanted greatness on the field every snap, now he gets bashed for it. Strange days of watching fans react.Jeevo wrote: Sat Aug 15, 2026 8:44 am Do you think he’s unpopular with his teammates? I kind of think it’s the opposite.
He got one wrong with Pierce, and some will never forgive that. The BBall video? I could care less. We got our franchise QB and kept one of the top Dlinemen in the game so win win for me.

Saw an interview with Maxx and Howie on some podcast a couple years back. I remember Howie saying something to the affect to Maxx "You can be one of the greatest ever but I would advise you to swallow some pride and take a breather every few snaps or so. It will make you stronger when you are in and possible extend your career a little longer."
This was in response to Maxx taking pride in never coming off the field.
Maxx nodded and said thank you but his face said "f[raiders_icon]ck that, Im not coming off the field"
Is that Maxx making the team a priority or himself?
I love Max the football player and glad he is a Raider for now

I think this is Maxx's last year with the Raiders. Just a gut feeling. He will play well this year and we will find a trade partner for him. I will be twisted over it... not gonna lie. Whatever happens with him, I wish him well and hope it is in the best interest for the Raiders.

Culture is organization wide. Its not just the locker room. When you publicly disrepute the decisions of the GM, that has a toxic effect on your organization's culture. And evidently, Spytek found it intolerable and he's right to feel that way.Jeevo wrote: Sat Aug 15, 2026 8:44 am Do you think he’s unpopular with his teammates? I kind of think it’s the opposite.

Yeah, I think I mentioned earlier that if he plays well but the Raiders are out of a playoff spot by the time the trade deadline is here, he could still end up getting traded if the return is worth it to the Raiders.Dr Death wrote: Sat Aug 15, 2026 11:08 am I think this is Maxx's last year with the Raiders. Most definitely popular with likely most of his team mates no doubt about that. Going to be interesting when it comes to him. It's one thing to be popular with a lot of your team mates it's another if you have endured the coaching staff. They tried to trade him once in what I believe was an attempt to get more overall young talent at different positions on the team. Come draft day it wouldn't have surprised me if they received a #1 for him, for our staff to use that to trade down and parlay that into more selections. Contractual wise his cap number goes down next year six million with a dead cap hit of 29 million and being 30 years old...Jeevo wrote: Sat Aug 15, 2026 8:44 am Do you think he’s unpopular with his teammates? I think a lot of us also realize this is an audition season for him both for this team and the rest of the league. He needs to show everyone that he’s still one of the best at the defensive end position. Equally he needs a show that he’s buying in here and that he really wants to stay.

Popularity with teammates can be overrated. Was Lyle Alzado popular? Rich Gannon? Daryle Lamonica?
Some players are charismatic and are natural born leaders, Stabler, Marcus, Howie, they were special but it takes all sorts. You need the leaders, followers and outcasts. A good organizational culture blends them together for a winning formula.

Yup, and if you think about it, what a players says vs the way he really feels, can be polar opposites. Whenever a player in virtually all sports is asked about one of his team mates, it's almost always a positive response but I mean, hell, what else are they supposed to say ?Reno Hightower wrote: Sat Aug 15, 2026 9:23 pm Popularity with teammates can be overrated. I almost never predict the future and this is one of those times. They obviously did not trade him out of spite over the video. They just got an offer they could not refuse. If that were the case, they would have turned around and traded him for lower value. They just got an offer that was too good to pass on.Dr Death wrote: Sat Aug 15, 2026 11:08 am I think this is Maxx's last year with the Raiders. Just a gut feeling. I don't know what his future is, but he is a Raider this season and to me that is a good thing. He is obviously valued in the locker room and his work ethic is a great example for a young team. Those that think he is toxic just have an axe to grind over his desire to have fun and live his life while being one of the best in the league.

For sure, there's a man that looks at tape and takes it to the field.

It was interesting seeing Maxx on the sidelines taking a few plays off now and again with the defense on the field. We finally have a staff that is saving Maxx from himself and giving him breathers.
