The take away is the older players who aged out before will be aged out for good. Realistically, Stabler would not have been inducted. Craig would not have gotten in. Guy would not have made it. Essentially, unless you are relevant now, you lost your window. McMichael would have been on the outside looking in.
I get it, though. Most of the guys on the senior list were fringe options when they were eligible or they would have gotten in. But claiming you are removing bias from the process is a farce. Bias will always play a part in a HOF selection process.

Well it appears that since the NFL decided that altering some rules of the game would be a good idea and thereby "pussifying" the game, the HOF people decided to arbitrarily change some things too.

Sucks because now Lester and Wiz, both of them should already be in the HOF, but now there's probably no way they get in. At least Snake and Branch finally got in or they wouldn't have made it either. Complete disgrace and total bullshit that Snake and Cliff didn't get to enjoy getting in while they were living.

Yeah, not too sure about some of the changes and how it will work in the real world and not just on paper. On paper the seniors could get more than 3 nominees but in practice they will probably get less than 3. The good thing is, they can change the rules again, particularly after BB gets his.raidersince63 wrote: Fri Sep 04, 2026 8:57 am Well it appears that since the NFL decided that altering some rules of the game would be a good idea and thereby "pussifying" the game, the HOF people decided to arbitrarily change some things too.

“ Contributor eligibility will now consider a candidate’s entire football résumé, including playing, coaching and other contributions.”
What is “other contributions?” And how subjective does this get?

Broadcast or front office jobs. Maybe even consider jobs within the NFL.Xramfan wrote: Fri Sep 04, 2026 12:56 pm “ Contributor eligibility will now consider a candidate’s entire football résumé, including playing, coaching and other contributions.”

Or for better or worse non football related contributions? Social media behavior, community service, domestic issues? It just isn’t clear what they mean exactlyAttyla wrote: Fri Sep 04, 2026 12:58 pm Broadcast or front office jobs. Maybe even consider jobs within the NFL.

I imagine that is on purpose. You want to consider the play on the field, or the coaching job, or anything football related but DV or other off field nonsense is surely going to factor into some guys minds. Hard not to in the world we have become where they are living life in a world where the microscope is pointed at them nonstopXramfan wrote: Fri Sep 04, 2026 1:14 pm Or for better or worse non football related contributions? Here's the definition of Contributor:
The Hall of Fame is also expanding who counts as a contributor, which was previously defined as someone who "made outstanding contributions to professional football in capacities other than playing or coaching."
The HOF will now allow voters to consider "a candidate's full football résumé that may include playing, coaching and other contributions to the sport" when selecting for the category.
FYI, Al Davis was enshrined as a Contributor.

For decades I've questioned whether its the Hall of Fame or is it the Career of Fame because it varies depending on who the (especially) player is.
Case in point? Jim Kelly absolutely does not belong in the Hall of Fame:
https://www.pro-football-reference.com/ ... llJi00.htm
One very good year: 1990 and that was it (the only year he had interceptions below 10).
Very good to above average in the Regular Season.
Middling in the playoffs outside of 1990.
Downright horrific in the Super Bowl.
At time of retirement he held no records of note, only "bad" ones in the Super Bowl.
0-4 in the Super Bowl but Plunkett being 2-0 and not in? Thiesmann 1-0 and Sims at 1-0 in the SB and not in? So by the HOF thinking losing 4 straight Super Bowls is a more impressive feat than winning one or two?
Yeah...No.
Then there is the question of longevity? Aka the Gale Sayers/Terrell Davis criteria. Now, I'm fine with both being in if we are talking talent alone, but its another part of what is a HOF career?

I'm not sure its drama more so its a sports writer for a specific team/city gets a burr up his ass and shouts the longest.pfish57 wrote: Fri Sep 04, 2026 7:02 pm Iv'e never really got caught up in the hall of fame drama...it's been proven to be flawed for many years...so f[raiders_icon]ck it...I know what Raiders are deserving & it's a long list!!!!!!

I have to disagree; Jim Kelly Buffalo Bills were a pretty dominating team; for those four Super Bowl years; Kelly pretty much was one of the best QB in the NFL at that time; and you gotta remember that he went to USFL first for few years I think;Willmark wrote: Fri Sep 04, 2026 6:48 pm For decades I've questioned whether its the Hall of Fame or is it the Career of Fame because it varies depending on who the (especially) player is.
