The Run Game

Unread post by Be_Easy_25 »

Why is it so poor?

Is the OL?
Is Jeanty not seeing the holes?
We need a legit WR to open things up?

Please advise.

For the life of me too, I don't understand the reason we don't run screens with the blitzes thrown at us repeatedly.
Honestly, as much as I was impressed with Cousins, the first 4 games, I do think his limitations are showing and its affecting the play calling.

....I think the creativity comes after you can get a group of 5 who can fairly consistently perform the basics....

...agree, along with the overall line play, as everything plays off of everything else, or not....

...with the Patriots, minus aj brown, their receiving group of less than household names sure did rack up some yards, and points, against us....

I agree but I think the limitations start with our inability to run the football. Everything Kubiak wants to do offensively is predicated on the ability to run the football. Jeanty needs to start gashing defenses and getting loose into the secondary.

This is somehow Jeanty's fault.

Right? Raiders have to somehow stop teams from stacking the box. Until then the running game is going to suffer.

Yup. Truth is this offense is still several players away. Not just WR, but probably two guards.

Need another draft and free agency to address the OL as even with Linderbaum they can't run block worth a crap. This is why the Raiders were smart to have Mendoza holding a clipboard for most of this season.

this is the least of our problems. defense is our first problem. then offensive line. then WR and RB tied.

Raiders need to use the screen pass as a weapon. When the rush comes inside like it has ,its the perfect time to use the screen pass. When that starts working it will change the defense's game plan.

The one screen to Jeanty last week was perfect.

that only works when defense dont compress their defenses (8 in the box) if you try to throw a screen pass with 8 in the box your asking to lose yds or worse get the pass int ...

screens work when defenses pass rush and play back to defend vs the pass

Exactly. People keep screaming for screens because they work so well against us. With the whole D up close running a screen is a recipe for disaster. Once in a while we pull one off but most of the time its blown up before it gets started

When the receiver is covered in a proper screen by blockers the risk drops drastically. When a screen works against an 8 man front, that's when there are long gains. 2/3s of the defense is around the QB and half the offense is moving down field.

Jeanty needs space. Our OL isn't doing it. The A gap runs are a freaking joke.

The kid definitely needs more space, but he's also injured, so he can't hit the hole fast enough nor can he bounce it outside.

I'm very optimistic about Kubiak, but he's getting this one wrong. When your#1 RB is limping after carries for three straight games, you sit him. I once separated my shoulder and the doctor didn't tell me to do overhead presses and should shrugs at the gym. He told me to rest the damn thing.

This is a good opportunity for Jeanty to sit and get healthy. We have a brutal schedule for the next 3/4 games. After that, things ease up quite a bit. So let's sit Jeanty for a few weeks and have him come back healthy for the latter half of the season. If Kubiak is worried about blocking, we have a FB, so put him in and adjust accordingly.
