The Off. Line - Complaints, Fixes, Questions, Draft

Unread post by erickench »

Mike Tice once said while coaching for the Raiders: “If you look at the offense like a fancy car, the offensive line is the engine. Even though we might have nice spinners and nice rims and tinted windows and some neat paint job, it doesn’t mean crap without the engine. If the engine’s not working, the car might look like a pretty nice car, but it’s a piece of crap.” And he was 100% right. I wish we had him back. Changes must be made on the O-line. Charles Grant is a very athletic lineman. We should give him some reps at right tackle. Bring back Powers-Johnson as the starter at center. Parham has got to go. Maybe we should consider moving Meredith back to guard. He did so well there last year. :cuss:

Also, I would hope the coaching staff puts some pups in at the OL (especially for Burford who was a one year crap shoot band aid who will not be a Raider next season). We have nothing to lose in trying to develop these kids.
Totally agree. I would bench Burford now. Play the young guys.

If you don't think Mendoza was the correct pick then that tells me all I need to know.

Again, I notice you didn't answer the questions posed to you. I also noticed you only try to attack someone. I also never said Mendoza wasn't the "Correct Pick", I said I wouldn't have selected him. Just like the year before, I wouldn't have taken Ashton Jeanty...not because I don't think he is good but because we don't have an OL for him to actually run behind. How's that shit working out by the way?
Furthermore, can you not read? I said that I did take Mendoza with my 2026 1st Round selection but I would have traded down and added multiple parts and picks, thus making the TEAM stronger.
Finally, where or when has KK said that he came to the Raiders to coach Mendoza? (I know you didn't say that)

Yeah, I don’t know why this wasn’t done at the latest, last week. I didn’t mind bringing him in cause, he had a good rookie year &, then got injured, fell out favor &, wasn’t good the following 2-3yrs. So bring him in on the cheap, let him compete & if he sucks, get rid of him. Or maybe he’s a good depth piece. Well he’s sucked, big time! Bench his ass.

I wonder if the idea of Grant at LG has been discussed by the coaching staff. It seems like they want to keep him on the left side only. Since he’s not starting over Glaze, or even competed at all with him prior to the start of the season. Plenty of OT’s have been drafted, used at OG for a season or two before taking over at OT. Maybe Grant at LG could be a huge difference maker in the mean time. Then he takes over for Miller in a year or two?

We need a wide receiver and at least two lineman..hopefully not more.but two nasty guards would work for me.

Do you think we can rely on Miller?
What is your take on Zuhn being drafted by these guys yet not playing much at all when we clearly are bad?

thanks

Just so many questions, especially about the younger guys.
And Miller might be nearing the end of his career, I'm hoping Grant is going to take over at left tackle but who knows

When Johnson took over Chicago he instantly upgraded the oline..

Wish we would have done a little
More, but we shall see. Miller is ok and that’s about it in my opinion…I guess it’s hard to judge he and Linderbaum because they have to help
So much with the guys next to them.

Lord I hope Grant turns into a player…but I’m skeptical

I have no faith in Miller and not sure why we trusted him at all other than "loyalty" for being a Raider....yet that doesn't win games. I pray Grant is the LT answer, I think we way overpaid for a above average OC....I'm really shocked with Zuhn not playing somewhere and totally appauled at the front office for signing Cappa and now Burford for OG! Sorry but that is not the signs of confidence I'm looking for!

We have a TON of holes which is why trading Maxx has to be done. It would suck not having him but getting 2 high picks on rookie contracts and signing 2 top tier FA's would soften the pain. This would also soften the pain for some bad signings (Nailor, Paye, and Stokes). We may be able to trade Stokes but the other line of the phone would disconnect if we offered Nailor or Paye. I would have a fire sale and trade almost everyone including Cousins.

You keep acting like we are getting 4 starters for Maxx which I dont think is the case. I don't think we get 2 high picks for him at this point. It will leave a huge hole on the D line that wont be cheap to fill and we already need a DT. Im not opposed to trading him if the price is right but don't think it returns the bounty you have in mind. JMHO

I think it is the case. I still think we can get a 1st and 2nd for him. We would hopefully be getting 4 starters considering 2 high draft picks and the ability to sign 2 high tiered FA's. There are no guarantees, but I like our chances (especially considering Spy). I prefer to fill multiple holes even at the expense of leaving a huge hole with the loss of Maxx. Rebuilding franchises require a shot in the arm of getting solid players on rookie contracts. Maxx will be on the downside of his career when we turn things around. We need to cash in while we can.

The way it looks now C. Rogers is their best run blocker while JPJ is there best pass blocker. This is all according to PFF.
