NFL Trade Deadline
Ok maybe this doesn’t need its own thread but the deadline is 5 weeks away. I know the next couple weeks will determine if we are buyers but let’s say we get to 5-2 do we make a move?
I really wish we still had Jakobi here but it sounds like a few guys might be available…
Brian Thomas Jr
Marvin Harrison Jr
Jerry Jeudy
Thoughts?

I think that is a great viewpoint and outlook. I am very interested to see how we look and play tomorrow and it will tell a lot. Either way, I don't see Mendoza starting this year with this OL.LayneStaley wrote: Sat Oct 24, 2026 1:26 pm For the record I never said I wouldn’t trade Cousins, I said I don’t think the Raiders would unless it’s some crazy price like a 2nd or 3rd. I’ve heard Tom talk about how Bledsoe was so important to him after he took the starting job as far as mentorship in timeouts and practices. I just don’t think the Raiders will do it. I would be extremely happy with draft capital for Kirk but I just think Brady has his hands all over this.
I also think we are winning the next 2 games which will keep us in playoff contention and stopping any QB change.

Cousins is on a one year deal (effectively) so he can't be traded in the offseason.HesterLayes wrote: Sat Oct 24, 2026 12:42 pm My guess at this point is we hang around playoff contention and Cousins plays well as he has all year. I’m fine with Mendoza sitting and sucking it all up with maybe a little action here and there.
Best case scenario is Cousins continues to excel all year and we make playoffs or get close.
Could see a nice trade in the offseason.

Very true with that ‘27 and huge ‘28 kicking in. Question….would be impossible to get a trade done before the fifth day of the new year? I mean it’d be tight, but it may be worth it instead of just outright releasing him.chucker wrote: Sat Oct 24, 2026 3:14 pm Cousins is on a one year deal (effectively) so he can't be traded in the offseason.
Or at least try…can you talk to teams beforehand and give them a chance to plan a restructure of his contract?

id like our front office to be more aggressive going forward...mad maxx and kirk are pieces we can trade off for PREMIUM picks that can help our team into the future become a powerhouse type teamchucker wrote: Sat Oct 24, 2026 11:41 am Obviously you want the best return in a trade. I'd rather get a 2nd or 3rd round pick, but I'm not holding out just because I think he's playing well enough that someone "should" value him as more than a 6th.
The bonus money he has remaining is a 2027 guaranteed roster bonus that will not hit our cap if we trade him this season because it isn't paid until next season. He was not paid a signing bonus by the Raiders in 2026 because that would have just ended up being an offset that would have saved the Falcons cash and cap and Cousins wouldn't have benefited from it. It saves the Raiders $10 million in cap next season if we trade him this year. That would also somewhat play into what another team will pay in trade compensation.
However, while some of us would be happy to trade him, every indication from the Raiders is that they will not do it. I'll be happy if we find out that all those indications are a false front.

we either keep him as the backup next yr and pay him or we do the smart thing and trade him off for a PREMIUM pick to a qb needy teamchucker wrote: Sat Oct 24, 2026 3:14 pm Cousins is on a one year deal (effectively) so he can't be traded in the offseason.

agreed 100 pctRaider_Dave wrote: Sat Oct 24, 2026 11:16 am Seems like a no-brainer. If someone offers a 2nd for Cousins they should help pack his bags.

Not trying to be confrontational but who is the qb needy team who is a Cousins away from making a playoff run that’s gonna give up a “PREMIUM” pick?mstrbass2000 wrote: Sun Oct 25, 2026 9:00 am we either keep him as the backup next yr and pay him or we do the smart thing and trade him off for a PREMIUM pick to a qb needy team

No team will trade for Cousins after this season. We cannot possibly keep him with his contract so we need to release him (if he's on the roster a few days into the 2027 league year then his $78 million 2028 salary becomes fully guaranteed. No team will trade for a player they can sign for no trade compensation.
The only possibility that we trade Cousins is prior to this season's trade deadline.

A lot will depend on these weeks prior to the deadline. If we beat the Rams and 49ers we arent trading Cousins with a 5-3 team. If we lose and are 3-5 then sure it may happen

Looking at Cousin's contract, even if he plays well, I don't see them keeping him beyond the 2027 league year. His fully guaranteed salary is just a killer for a 39 year old QB. I think they will say thank you and release him.

I'm thinking Cousins draft value is in the 4ish range. And if Mendoza is ready or the team is out of the playoff hunt I'm good with that value.
