The Off. Line - Complaints, Fixes, Questions, Draft

Unread post by erickench »

Mike Tice once said while coaching for the Raiders: “If you look at the offense like a fancy car, the offensive line is the engine. Even though we might have nice spinners and nice rims and tinted windows and some neat paint job, it doesn’t mean crap without the engine. If the engine’s not working, the car might look like a pretty nice car, but it’s a piece of crap.” And he was 100% right. I wish we had him back. Changes must be made on the O-line. Charles Grant is a very athletic lineman. We should give him some reps at right tackle. Bring back Powers-Johnson as the starter at center. Parham has got to go. Maybe we should consider moving Meredith back to guard. He did so well there last year. :cuss:

If running a business well makes you good at drafting them why the hell haven’t we went after Jeff Bezos or Elon Musk to help us out

Zuhn over Pregnon was the right choice but alot of fans on here didn't think that but choosing a zone guy over a power guy was a no brainer in Kubiak’s system.

Fans fail way more than GM’s do but we don't get held to task for our opinion cause no one remembers them much year after year unless it is a completely wild outrageous statement
I tried too, maybe he's listening through the wrong end of the binoculars.

your making my point for me

If running a business well makes you good at drafting them why the hell haven’t we went after Jeff Bezos or Elon Musk to help us out
why would jeff bezos or elon musk even wanna deal with football ??? they have more important things to do like running trillion dollar companies, anyway they would hire talent to run it and if they failed they would fire em until success happened

Zuhn over Pregnon was the right choice but alot of fans on here didn't think that but choosing a zone guy over a power guy was a no brainer in Kubiak’s system.

again things a good gm are paid to do, find talent that fits their system

Fans fail way more than GM’s do but we don't get held to task for our opinion cause no one remembers them much year after year unless it is a completely wild outrageous statement

again, i said anyone of us could have thrown darts and done better then the gms we have watched butcher this team on the draft, free agency and trades over the last 20 plus yrs

I am still worried about our OL (we have questions at Guard and RT). I have no problem taking Zuhn. That being said, we missed with Pregnon. He is a very experienced guard who is versatile (played 3 different systems for 3 different colleges). The kid is a beast and he would have been a day 1 starter for us. I know the team announced that Zuhn is going to play guard (never played the position). I hope they give him a hard look at RT.

Zuhn was playing RT yesterday. If he wins that spot, its a major win and not taking Pregnon would be an afterthought.

this is what i wanna see zuhn playing rt...kid played as a left tackle in teh sec, played against superior talent at the de position and held his own and many times dominated de's that got drafted in teh 1st 2 rds including bain.messidor and others

No doubt it would be HUGE if Zuhn takes the RT spot. Thankfully, they may keep him at tackle (I hate such a position change to guard especially since he never played there). I still wanted Pregnon to go with (not instead) of Zuhn. The guard position is still questionable (at least right now). Hopefully we are pleasantly surprised and someone rises up to the occasion.

I don’t think Zuhn is likely to start at RT. Instead, I think the idea is to have Zuhn be a utility player on the OL.

Perhaps he will earn a starting role someday? Elumenour started his career as a guy who could play multiple positions, and he just got himself paid as a RT. JE is an international player, so Zuhn is probably more experienced than JE was as a rookie.

This is very much so speculation, maybe Zuhn is their guy and we got a day 1 starter at 91. Not impossible. But if I had to guess, I think our week 1 starter will either be Glaze or Grant

Pregnon/Zuhn would have been an epic 3rd round.

The only players penciled in are LT and C.
There's really not a lot of quality seen at the other 3 positions so I think they'll work him around to find the upgrade where ever that is.

I don't think any fan really knows what we have in the OL. Last year was an all time example of bad coaching imo. I refuse to speak definitely about any one player who managed that level of adversity and still makes the 2026 roster. Obviously Kolton and Linderbaum fall outside of this. But Glaze, JPJ, and even Charles Grant who I think should be given a shot at LG need to be given the benefit of the doubt

I'm not gonna write Zuhn off from being a RT. He has 32.5 inch arms and that's the knock. Yet, Rashawn Slater has 33 inch arms and he's a pro bowl caliber player for the Chargers at Left Tackle. I have all the faith in the world in Rick Dennison. A lot of teams run/have run the wide zone scheme. NOBODY can run it like a Shanahan/Kubiak can

Pregnon wasn’t a good fit for what we’ll likely be running on offence

Kubiak & Dennison want guys who are highly athletic & can move laterally which is a huge hole in Pregnon’s game

Drafting guys who fit your scheme is just as important if not more than getting guys who have talent, drafting a lesser talented player who fits your scheme is usually a better move than trying to fit a square peg into a round hole

I am interested to see how Zuhn fares at RT & if he sticks

Miller, JPJ, Linderbaum, Rogers & Zuhn right now seems to be starting lineup which wouldn’t scare me

Who's he got to beat out that bum from SF or Meredith? I mean Meredith probably doesn't make the roster.
...not reading too much into it, but apparently they had Zuhn at RT during ota's

I assume you mean that Caleb Rogers should be given a shot at LG. I agree. I'd like to see Grant get a shot at supplanting Glaze at RT. It's possible that Zuhn gets a real shot at RT as well, but it's also possible that they just work his versatility as a rookie and give him a year to develop before slotting him into one position.

I just don't care who plays as long as it's the best 5 - I think Miller and Linderbaum have positions sewn up as they should. Like you, I don't put a ton of stock into the play we saw from anyone on the line last year under Pete's worthless son.
