We have some leverage but so does his agent. A redone contract does not come with an additional cap hit so getting him some stability can only make him more motivated. I think a good faith contract redo is a reasonable askmstrbass2000 wrote: Sun May 17, 2026 7:45 am agree 100 pct ...i do wonder how much leverage taron and his agent actually thinks they have ??? we drafted cbs that can play in that spot

Do we actually know that? It seems that is how this thread has gone.raidersince63 wrote: Sun May 17, 2026 7:56 am It's not about his salary, it's about what is guaranteed.
He might be wanting a whole new contract.
But I wouldn't be surprised it is just about guaranteed now.
Over The Cap has a valuation on him of a little over 4 million.
Sportrac has him at 8.5 mil.
PFF has him in the 60's of 120 CB's.
He already got his guaranteed money on this contract from Buffalo, so he's double dippin leveraging.
I can see the Raiders easily hard-balling him back knowing what I know now.

Not sure to be honest...think I read that only about $1Mil per year is guaranteed. I doubt the Raiders give him more money.SkullCrusher wrote: Sun May 17, 2026 11:23 am Do we actually know that? It seems that is how this thread has gone.

Not sure how accurate it is but I found this;
"Johnson is turning 30 years old in July and has two years left on his deal. However, none of the remaining years are guaranteed, leaving him vulnerable to being released by The Raiders. This has led Johnson to want a new deal with guarantees to make him feel secure with the Raiders. He has been absent from voluntary workouts, and Vincent Bonsignore of the California post reported that his contract is the reason he hasn’t been with the football team."
Also this;
["i]2026 Season (Age 30):Base Salary: $8,100,000Cap Hit (Raiders): $8,670,000Guaranteed Money: Only $1,175,000 remains guaranteed.Bonuses: Includes a $150,000 workout bonus and up to $510,000 in per-game roster bonuses.2027 Season (Age 31):Base Salary: $9,032,333Cap Hit (Raiders): $10,000,000Guaranteed Money: $0 (Completely non-guaranteed).Bonuses: Includes a $500,000 workout bonus and up to $510,000 in per-game roster bonuses.[/I]"

My biggest thing with guaranteed money is the fact that he's had injuries the last few years. So I'm ok with them telling him no more guaranteed money this year. If he plays the season without missing multiple games and plays well we can revisit next year's guarantees then

If the 30yo makes the final cut his salary is 8.7M. If he doesn't he walks with 1.2M and he can double dip by signing with another team.
I wouldn't guarantee him squat.
He's coming into his last paydays so understand his urgency but perhaps not on our dime.

Traded a 6th (Pick 182) for Taron Johnson and a 7th (Pick 228).

Yea I'd call his bluff. It's ballsy demanding guaranteed money with his injury history. We have all the leverage here. If he doesn't want to play he can retire

There's a middle ground you can work with. If he's injured in OTAs or in camp then he gets paid anyway - his salary effectively gets guaranteed for 2026.
You can guarantee a portion of the 2026 compensation so he knows that he's less likely to get cut for cap reasons after working the full offseason. It's not that unreasonable to meet him partway, assuming that the team wants him to play in 2026. I wouldn't guarantee a dime of 2027 but you could adjust his 2027 so that there is some guarantee that vests early in the 2027 offseason so the team either has to commit or move while FA is still in full swing.

raiders need to hold pat on this one, we can always trade him off to team in contention needing cb help at the trade deadlinevtraider wrote: Mon May 18, 2026 2:55 pm My biggest thing with guaranteed money is the fact that he's had injuries the last few years. Doesn’t seem like he has much leverage. He can’t really afford to sit out a season as at his age.

Lol. 2023 was a lifetime ago. He was burnt toast last year and looked bad.
