The first or second drive had one with Jeanty as the receiver from the backfield being led by JPJ and Linderbaum. A standard WR screen to Jeanty lined up at WR in the second quarter. There was a another one in the 3rd/4th quarter to Jeanty, but that might have technically been a toss play. The Dolphins played them all pretty well. There was also a WR screen (quick pass) to Malik Benson that got some good yards because the db was playing off.Rabidraider wrote: Sat Sep 19, 2026 8:27 am This week has screen pass written all over it.

I'm not buying that for even a dollar. He's ready the moment Kirk goes down.
He's ready the moment we proven we have a reasonable oline.
The Raiders have a scenario where we didn't have to throw him to the wolves, great.
But if he needed to be out there, he'd be out there and he's as ready as the next rookie QB.
Great Qb's often don't look all that good their rookie season, we know this, but it's probably important exp.
I'm not sure where everyone's Ready-mometer is at, but it could take seasons before he's like polished ready, who gets that luxury? We don't want to paying him millions to burn through his rookie contract sitting, we want him to get that exp asap so we can get a polished Mendoza while on his rookie contract.
Year 1 Caleb beat up and ehhh... What did it prove? Chicago needs a new HC.
Year 2 Caleb, ok seeing some signs and not taking a beating... Does well in playoffs.
Year 3 Caleb, ready to fly?
I use Caleb because imo he was the last great QB talent drafted.
I feel a QB has to have a good 3 year run to know they've arrived.
Other recent top QB's, all still have questions since they don't have that time in yet to prove consistency.
Daniels? Where's he at now? What's going on? Amazing Rookie and then...
Stroud, even Maye now is being questioned, more tape, more adjustments towards him.
Then you have the reverse Bryce is actually getting noticeably better.

i think there is an argument both ways. But using all the other players to suggest he is not ready is a fallacy. I think him holding himself to a high standard to say he is not ready is also a fallacy. I think Kubiak selecting Cousins over him as suggesting he is not ready is also a fallacy.SkullCrusher wrote: Sat Sep 19, 2026 9:02 am I'm not buying that for even a dollar. The other players do play into this and we need to see where they are at every moment of the season. But using them as your argument that he is not ready takes away from his ability. He also can be ready and not be selected as the starter. Just because they are leaning in on experience does not say he is not ready. Cousins did not wow in a game against probably the worst team in the league. Not an overly impressive game. What he does next goes a long way in whether Mendoza is ready. He craps the bed, guess what...Mendoza magically becomes ready. That is the NFL. Next man up.
I guess we will see soon enough.

Good post - if I could add, I believe we see him sooner than later. I don’t see a world where teams don’t stack the box and make Cousins beat them with the arm. Seasoned vet only gets you so far without having one. Sure, Cousins knows football, but you still have to be able to execute. Against good teams he will struggle.Attyla wrote: Sat Sep 19, 2026 9:36 am i think there is an argument both ways. But using all the other players to suggest he is not ready is a fallacy. Some people are so wild in their thoughts. The situation has to be PERFECT for Mendoza to even think about playing! Yeah, that's odd. Dude has the luxury of being able to sit and learn more for a bit. That's great & a plus. If he had to play tomorrow I largely expect he'll be ready to go. The Raiders are not devoid of talent or leadership. No situation will ever be perfect for a long period of time. It's all fluid. He's got plenty to work with & he's got a legit offensive mind at his side

i am not going to compare overly with this. But Bledsoe goes down and the not ready Brady comes in. That is about as simple as it gets. Brady did not have great weapons, and yet, within a very short time Bledsoe is forgotten.Goodtimes333 wrote: Sat Sep 19, 2026 10:15 am Some people are so wild in their thoughts. That is how it will go with Cousins. Either by plan or by necessity Mendoza will go in and we will hopefully forget very quickly the era of Cousins

...were it up to me, I''d like to see him at about 6 games in to the season, or so, and while also depending somewhat on circumstances at the time, but with the disappointing arm strength showing from cousins, the extent of which caught me by surprise, they will have to make 'a decision' long before that if they want to continue to see the kind of progress that I think the offense is capable of on a week to week basis, bit only if defenses have to defend more that 20 yards from scrimmage.

I'll again defer to Kubiak, because when you get right down to it, his line of thinking is the only one that counts.

Brady was in his second year when he took over for Bledsoe. I think a rookie QB learns a lot in one year being on the bench.Attyla wrote: Sat Sep 19, 2026 10:35 am i am not going to compare overly with this.
